New Uniforms Revealed

With the Washington Comrades Commanders reveal today, they also showed off their new uniforms. Its cool to see a different design take with similar colors to what ISU has.

-Their home reds look pretty good and follow what WFT has been wearing for the last two years. My only complaint is the Commanders on the front with the lines makes it look out of place.
-The road whites look fairly meh. I'm not a fan of the mesh gradient on the numbers and shoulders.
-Oh boy, those black alternates. They make me appreciate ISU's all black look even more. The yellow numbers with red boarders don't seem like they will read well from a distance, or on TV. Also the "W" logo on the front of the helmet looks dopey.

Yeah, home uni looks decent, but the rest is a swing & a miss... but still better than Arizona's unis (poor Kyler)

That shoulder patch looks like they just scrambled the Chicago flag and stitched it in two colors.

Should the Commanders really be putting on 1932 on the patch when they just became the Commanders in 2022? Leave the Commanders name off the patch and it works.

It's still the same franchise. They weren't always the Redskins or located in DC either.

At least they kept the same theme of ugly uniforms.
Washington: One thing we will not do is change our colors.

Washington's white jerseys: Except we've decided to make an exception here. We will have two shades of red with our white jerseys. Just because we like that.

It's been pretty quiet since the end of football season, so I thought I'd try stirring things up a bit.

Mike Green just tweeted another great photo from the past (of the women's basketball team wearing gold uniforms in the seventies) & I started thinking maybe we should embrace gold/yellow as the primary color for our uniforms.

No other FBS team wears yellow/gold as a primary color. Occasionally, a few teams wear an alternative yellow/gold jersey (Michigan, GT, WVU, WYO, etc.), but no team has yellow/gold as their primary home jersey color.

I know many of you don't like "mustard". I know Coach Campbell doesn't seem to like yellow very much (at least not since he arrived in Ames). But, this is just a message board, so I'm just throwing ideas out there.

What do you all think?

In my opinion a W/Y/W uni combo would be something people would really grow to love. I think a yellow jersey with White numbers and Cardinal trim would look sharp. I always love the the way the white font and numbers look on the LSU baseball jersey.

My thoughts are that there is a reason nobody has yellow as a primary jersey color. It's ugly.

If we were to really wear gold like our colors state we are then fine. Mustard yellow sucks. I dont own a single isu thing in yellow. Red, gray, or black for me.

No. Too much controversy. Even if they added our "70's gold"

I think the BB unis are fine, actually pretty cool, when they do all gold (yellow). However with football unis, I think it best to stay away from the all-gold and/or the gold jersey. Definitely stay away from the all-gold. It just doesn't look good enough to justify it. And many absolutely hate it.

You're right. It would probably look fine and some/alot of fans might like it. Trouble is ordering that gold jersey just for 1-2x use/per year on a w/y/w is pretty unreasonable IMO. And someone (a coach) might be tempted to use the yellow jersey with other combos which would be a mistake. Best just to not order one.

I'd be fine with the football team ordering non-game-day yellow or gold jerseys for practice use only. Make them nice enough that they could be sold at a "uniform sale" when they are through with them. They'd get sold in a hurry! They wouldn't lose much if any money on them.

This is what I envision, would like to see as far as Iowa State's official Cardinal and Gold.

Keep our current Cardinal and our current Yellow/Gold. Add our past '70's Gold.

It's based on the flag of Washington, DC

Which is based on George Washington's own British heraldic symbology
