New turf going down

Question for you agronomists. Will the 90's weather through Thursday next week affect the sod. Lots of water ??

PS> Good weekend to clean and hose down that outside AC condenser!

40 FBS stadiums are at or north of 40 degrees latitude.

16 are G5 -- 15 turf, 1 grass (UConn)
24 are P5 -- 15 turf, 8 grass, 1 indoor (Syracuse).

The 7 P5 schools north of 43 degrees are all turf -- UW, WSU, MINN, ORST, ORE, WIS, SYR (indoors).
Of the other 17 (between 40-42 degrees), 9 are turf and 8 are grass.

Michigan State, Northwestern, and Iowa State are in the 42s.
Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, BYU and Colorado are in the 40s.

I mean the vast majority of northern college programs have turf. Are they all foolish?

Honestly, most of those other schools do not have the expertise that ISU does. Or the cheap, yet educated labor of students actually studying turf. High schools with money have turf fields, but like someone said, those fields get a lot more use for other things than JTS does. I doubt we ever make the switch, especially when we can grow our own turf. I'd like to see a cost comparison between fieldturf and grass.

You run faster on turf, and are more likely to get hurt on turf. Grass is better for teams who want to run the ball and play defense.

Yeah, I’ve never heard him say any such thing.

And if he wanted it, we’d have it. Everyone here knows that full well. Jamie would make it so.
Pretty sure Matt is calling the shots on this. The Horticulture Dept Head is not telling Matt what surface he’s playing on.

Isn’t this a blend of turf and real grass? It’s not crazy to think CMC wanted turf, and options/ maintenance promises were presented to him and he liked this idea. Wasn’t it also at Toledo when he said he wanted turf?

No, its all natural grass.

The Cyclone tailgate tour starts soon.... sounds like you will get a chance to ask Matt in person about his preferences in playing surfaces.

The hybrid grass stitching technology is pretty slick, could see a lot of U.S. stadiums moving in that direction. Lots of UK/Europe football stadiums have already transitioned.

The Drake game was not the first slogfest of that season. The turf was already beat up going into the Drake game.

Good point, which tells us weather and traffic will beat up real grass.
Yeah that fall was brutal but the field didn’t hold up because it was shot. The Jack drains incredibly well but the field had hit its expiration date.
