Iowa State now has two commits in the 2017 class, both in-state three-star prospects: QB Devon Moore and DE O'Rien Vance.

Expect O'Rien Vance to play linebacker at Iowa State.

Great get for the staff. Big time talent. Love that we are starting to close down the borders and keep the in-state kids at ISU. His film looks really good. Anybody seen him play in person?

Watched his film right after we offered and had been hoping we would get him. Seems like the type of kid we'll have to work hard to hold on to the closer it gets to signing day which is a good problem to have. Good thing our staff seems to be at least decent at recruiting :)

Per a coach I know at Cedar Rapids Wash, he has some serious academic hurdles to cross, which is why more schools are taking a wait and see approach.

Not only a good instate pick up but we lose a ton of bodies in the front 7, nice to get an early commit that fits our needs.

I've heard this as well. He's talented enough to keep a spot open for tho.

Agreed.... The same coach also said that the the Iowa staff told him at their Junior day that if his grades get in order that there would be a spot for him. The coach feels if that happens he will jump on the offer right away.

Does anyone know if we have different entrance standards than they do?

Not that you aren't a troll, but someone dropping this as their first post seems questionable at best. But hey it's on the internet now so it must be true!

Anywho, great get and glad to see the coaches haven't stopped working.

Iowa has lower academic standards because the big ten allows partial qualifiers. Iowa fans claim they limit the number at Iowa but I have yet to see that in writing and have asked where I can find that many times.

I'm not a troll, I'm just more of a lurker than poster, and this time I actually had a link to some inside info. Also, someone posted right below me that they heard the same thing. Is he a troll, too?

Love getting more instate kids. Give this guy a couple years to develop, and he could be a really nice player for us

I've been known to troll sometimes ;).. I haven't heard anything about him jumping to Iowa. This staff does a much better job at developing relationships early with recruits. We'll see how it plays out.

Thanks for the info and I saw that after I posted. Hopefully he gets his studies in order.

BadBoi did say he heard Farniok was going to commit to Iowa so he might be

I hope so too. The coach told me that O'rien is originally from Mississippi and his family moved to Cedar Rapids about 6 years ago... maybe he is struggling with the course work compared to what he had in dreadful Mississippi?
