New Assistant

1. Recruiting

2. Be nice to find one the players really like and identify with.

3. Recruiting

4. Recruiting

I would like to see us hire as an assistant a 5-star recruit's Dad, other close family member, AAU coach, etc. (which is legal) OR someone really connected into the AAU scene. As long as we don't actually violate NCAA rules I'm o.k. with doing deals that just look shady on the surface.

Don't think his main focus areas fit as much with Coach Mac's but Fred Quartlebaum will probably be looking for a new job again.

What are your top priorities with a new assistant coach? Many here have said recruiting. My number one want is a offensive wizard. Honestly, I think Greg's main problem has been figuring out a way to score point consistently.

I have one priority: win.

If that guy is a recruiter, great. If he is a hypnotist, great. If it is a young dude, old dude, black dude, white dude: don't care. Just want someone that will get us to winning games.

I agree, but the question wasn't who should McD go for it was who would I go for. And I'd hire the guy from Mac Irvin Fire or a comparable.
Hiring Mac Irvin guys won't necessarily get you Mac Irvin guys-SIU has one, and hasn't had much luck. D-Rob has a good relationship with them, and that's about all you can ask for.

Tell me, which "up and coming" assistant coach, concerned about continuing up the ladder, is going to come here with the possibility of being without a job a year from now.
I doubt many assistants with options are going to choose to go work for a lame-duck HC.
