New 2011 Scholarship Offer

You idiot!

Everybody on this thread needs to chill. If Uthoff could be a Robbie Hummell type player for us that would be great. I think his body (this sounds weird) can definitely add 30 lbs in the next 2 years. 6-8 and 210 is perfect for the position we will ask him to play

I don't know how much weight he can carry. He is really narrow.

He'll never be as physical as Hummell.

Speaking of "needing to chill," Robbie Hummel was a Rivals 4-star player out of high school...

That is why I said a Robbie Hummel "TYPE" player. Come on TM. I know you love to see the negative in all things MBB right now but that doesn't mean you should be talking negatively about recruits.

If we would have talked negatively about the ISU MBB program when recruiting Harrison Barnes you would have thrown a fit. In fact you did all the time. You use to get ****** when people said HB was to good for ISU. NOW? Your the leader of the group for less talented recruits.

Please don't put words in my mouth 85'.
I haven't said a single thing "negative" about the recruit in this thread. I've never seen him play. Other posters have certainly been wary of his skills. Perhaps you have me confused with them.
You are the one who chose to compare him with the great player from Purdue. For a high school player who is not highly-ranked, I think that's a reach.
You could have mentioned tons of other less-accomplished players.

Have you in the last week not questioned any recruit who would come play for a "lame duck" coach?

As for my comparison...I didn't. I never said I think he can be our Robbie Hummell production wise. I am hoping he is a 6'8 SF though that can shoot over other SF and help the big guys on the board.....ala Robbie Hummell

And I like I said to TM, I never said he was as good as Hummell.

I know what you meant, I am just saying he is going to have to grow allot to be that type of player, and I don't think he has the frame to do it.

I think he could be successful at ISU if he gets put in the right spots because of his offensive skill. Defense is more my concern.

Snow, you have seen him in person, right? His pictures make him look very thin, it would very easy to put on 25 pounds, big frame or not. He is also just 16. Once he stops growing, I suspect he will naturally beef up. Hummel is 21 and only 208 pounds.

Hummell does not seem that big:

I've only seen one person on here really criticizing the player. I think the point the rest of us are trying to make is that we have seen this type of player come through during the McD regime before, and often it hasn't worked out. Everything I hear in this discussion leads me to think Wes Eikmeir, Clayton Vette, Jordan Dykstra, Clinton Mann, and Cory Johnson. Not criticizing the kid, if he is as good as these guys he is 20 times the basketball player I ever was, but more critizing the coach who seems to have reached on guys like this in the past and completley whiffed.

Did you leave off any white, US born players that we've brought in besides Ham off this list?

These people that judge him because of his offers are dead wrong..he got his first offer barely 6 months ago..

Exactly, he is not the type of most of those...

I've been down on Mac, but this is a good offer. All you people putting this kid down because you've never heard of him need to investigate further. Harrison Barnes may be the greatest player to come out of this state, but Eastern Iowa is still the hotbed in this state and over here this kid is well-known and a stud. ISU will be lucky to get him before bigger fish jump on board.

I really do hope I am wrong in this case, but so far his recruiting of white, US born players has not yielded great results. But like I said, hope this kid works out differen than those other guys.

Also, aside from those guys being white and American, there is the fact that they all came in a bit undersized (especially weight-wise) and had suspect athleticism. I left Ham off the list on purpose, beacuse he had the size and gained the weight needed to bang with the big boys in this conference. We have seen guys with decent skill sets (I primarily think of Eikmeyer and Johnson here) come and guy simply because they were not big enough, and were not athletic enough. That is what scares me with this offer, but again, I hope I am wrong.

Sioux City is in Eastern Iowa?

Touche'.

Siouxland is on a hot streak, but there are a lot of great coaches in the MVC and a lot of great underclassmen. Just one man's opinion, but I think you'll see the MVC back on top in Iowa soon. And Uthoff will start getting a lot more notoriety.

So I guess what I take from this is Uthoff needs to go on the JHam peanut butter sandwich diet. Problem solved!
