haven't been back to ames since undergrad and even then was way more into the game than i was into tailgating. however, this year i am an old man (okay only 27) but need to know where would be best suited for me and my friends.

we'll get there around 7:30 am with probably 2 cars

any advice on where is good and where will still be available at that time?

there may be some spots open clear to the east side of Vet Med ... but good luck. I'd try getting there at 6 and you'll have better luck.

Maybe send 1 car ahead and just walk to it when you park the other one a couple miles away at 7:30

By 7:30 AM, the main student lot along University Blvd will be full. There's more lots down S. 16th by Vet-Med that aren't too bad, that's probably a decent bet.

Here's the question I have. We plan on bringing a bus and they(the uninformed ones) wanted to load up at 730 in Newton!! I told them there is no way on God's good green earth that would be a good idea. I'm hoping we can leave Newton by 630 and still find a respectable spot. I still plan on being in the vet med lot.

This is the Iowa game people. The student lot, and the one south of it will be full by 6AM. They will then send the overflow to the vet med grass lots - plan on that being close to full in the next hour or two - I'm betting last car in at ~ 8AM ... but it could easily be sooner.

good luck after that. We just had 48K for a Thurs night NDSU game ... whats gonna happen this weekend!

If you don't mind tailgating in the HyVee parking lot, that's probably do-able.

Beat the rush. Get there at 4PM on friday.

Fixed it. Seriously, in 2007 we got in line around 1AM, and when they opened g2/g3 (the student lot, and the one to the southwest) we were one of the last vehicles to even get a spot. If you show up at 4AM, you WILL NOT get a spot in those lots. You will be in Vet Med, or one of the lots along s 16th st.

My wife and I will be meeting up with an existing tailgate around 7am and I'm not sure where to park and walk from. Any suggestions? Our friends will be in the RV lot.

We are bringing a camper into the Vet Med area Friday night and plan on camping all night. We do it every 2 yrs. I doubt we move it in the morning. We'll be close enough by the Vet Med.

Plus, we are older (30's) with 2 young kids so we don't need to party by all the young whipper snappers.
