My better half needs a new cell phone . Iphone 6 is just wore out . Dont need the latest and greatest Iphone an 11 or 12 is just fine. Trying to find one to buy out right for black friday. Everythings a certified refurb or tied to some contract or has payment plans. . Isnt it possible to buy a new phone outright anymore ? Any black friday deals anyone knows of ??? Certified refurbs good options or not ?? Refurbished phones and computers seem like something I always thought would be better to buy new . Thoughts ? Shes on Sprint if its worth anything .

My new iPhone gave out under warranty and they gave me a refurbished that was a couple years ago and my refurbish still doing well

Failure rates on electronics are pretty low unless there's a legit design issue (e.g. inadequate cooling, poor overvoltage protection, etc.). I have no problems buying refurbished electronics. Screens, cases and anything with moving parts is a different question, but the electronics themselves usually aren't problematic.

Consider switching her to Google Fi. They use Sprint, T-Mobile, and US Cellular towers for coverage. They also have a range of high tech phones to more basic phones that you can pay for outright or over a 2 year period.

Not sure what provider you're on but you almost always have the option to buy outright even if they push the payment plan (which is usually discounted)

Sound like you haven't heard of Back Market. Check out their website, read through their warranties and assurance then find a phone your better half will appreciate and save yourself some money. Be sure if color doesn't matter to change that setting to find a cheaper phone withing the same model.

Depending on what the other half does on the phone you may want to consider whether the phone model will get security updates and support.

Are we saving money on phone for ring this holiday season?

The 12 mini is a decent price considering it’s Apple. Good battery, nice screen.

I'm about ready to move on from Note 10...but don't know what to follow up with. Assuming Note line will be dead soon.

Thought about S21/22? and Pixel 6... also thought a little about switching to Apple, but don't feel particularly interested in taking that step.

I'm never going to apple for phones. I've always been happy with the Pixel phones but most of the reviews I've seen say to wait for the next version. It sounds like the battery life isn't there yet. I have an S20fe that's been pretty good for the $$$. I don't know if they are going to do an S21fe.

Our family has been buying phones that aren't tied to contracts for about 10 years now so we can keep our unlimited data plan from altel that will be honored by Verizon until we change plans. We just buy a new/refurbished phone and swap the SIM card. Verizon has been trying to force us out of our plan, but have yet to succeed. I was using the same SIM card for about 8 years before I dropped my phone in the lake this last summer. They didn't want to activate a new SIM card without us changing our plan, but I digress.

I have been buying refurbished Samsung phones, either through ebay or amazon, to save money for 5 years or so, and have never had any issues.

Swappa is a good site to buy used phones. I have bought a bunch of phones there for the family with no issues. All Apples for my kids and Samsung for me. I have an old S9 that is still going strong and I bought it used.

You can literally buy an iPhone from Apple new and unlocked.

How long you wanna keep? Reading that the providers are moving to 5G, and anything not compatible will obsolete in two years.

Is this your opinion or something that is actually happening? Will it be across all providers? Sorry for the silly questions but I haven't followed that very close, it has been a few yrs since I've changed phones, I only change them when they die.

Ok, I just checked other additional sources. CNET says 4G LTE will be around into 2025, and likely beyond. 5G platform building on 4G LTE, not replacing it as was done with 3G.

Appears, like nearly everything you read on the internet, the truth is out there somewhere; just gotta find it and who knows what's accurate?

I’d be shocked given they’re just now turning off 2g.
