Again, I realize you're arguing just to argue, but I assure you Spoelstra is regarded as one of the top coaches in the league, I'm not just throwing out some crazy statement here.

Best NBA Coaches - 03.18.13 - SI Vault

Let's not have this turn into another two month argument, like last year when you claimed Durant should have been MVP over LeBron, that one didn't end so well for you and this one isn't going to either brah.
You're really saying Spolestra > Karl?

I can't believe what I'm reading, is this real?

Spoelstra has been given a heck of a roster and LBJ makes him look pretty good but I do like his player rotations for the most part. He probably needs to go less to Cole and Haslem in future series but he's pretty good about eliminating minutes for guys who played regularly during the season when that players skills don't fit with the matchup.

The entire gameplan crumbles without LeBron but Spoelstra has done a great job of crafting his offensive and defensive schemes around having the best player in the game.

I doubt he'd be in my top 5 coaches but he'd definately be in the top 10.

Karl has been with 3 organizations and all three were better when he was there than they were before he got there or in the first few years after he left. His teams are almost always in the playoffs.

That said, whether it's his style of play or just bad luck he doesn't seem to make it out of the first round too often and it's not like he's never had elite talent.

Still a top 5 coach for me but if I had a team of 3 stars I'd be a little leary at giving him the reigns. I think he's better suited to build a team up.

You're really just making up arguments for yourself now. I said Karl is a good coach and I would have him in the same tier as Spoelstra. But if we're talking about who is more accomplished, well Spoelstra has a title and two trips to the Finals.

What does Karl have? One trip to the Finals in 25 years, losing in the first round with a 63 win Sonics team in the first post Jordan season, not getting his team out of the first round in 9 of the last 10 years, coaching the disastrous 2002 world championship team?

As I've said before I think he's a very good coach, but his resume isn't exactly loaded with real success.

Right, which is basically what I had too. Spoelstra being in the next group of five or six coaches after Pop and Carlisle. People who follow the NBA would have him somewhere in the same range.

I'd say its been a fun day. But I'm still waiting on what makes Karl a more accomplished coach than Spoelstra, feel free to chime in.

is this serious?

Karl has 1137 wins
Spoelstra has 394

Spoelstra get's spoon fed by Pat Riley. Karl never has had the kind of talent to win it all.

Karl has been to the playoffs 20 times.
Spoelstra 4.

how this is even a debate, I have no idea. George Karl shouldn't be in the same breath as Spoelstra. I apologize to Karl for even arguing such an obvious debate.

Karl has 756 losses
Spoelstra has 134 losses

Karl absolutely had talent to win it all, those early-mid 90s Seattle teams were loaded, unfortunately Karl couldn't get them out of the first round in either of the two seasons Jordan missed.

And with Denver, he might not have the talent to win it all, but to only get out of the first round once? Not that impressive. Also Spoelstra has been to the playoffs 5 times, in 5 years. Karl has been there 20 times, in 25 years. So of course he's going to rack up more wins and playoff appearances just by his huge edge in experience. That's not a real strong argument.

you said accomplished, yet say that because Karl has more years than Spoelstra, it doesn't count.

You seriously can't be this dense.

Yeah Spoelstra has won a title, Karl hasn't. Spoelstra has accomplished something (more) than Karl has in the NBA. Just racking up regular season wins doesn't make Karl an accomplished coach, if it did then Lenny Wilkins would be held in much higher esteem.

As short as 11 months ago the guy was constantly being talked about as getting fired, two years ago people were shocked he hadn't been replaced. But now winning a title with the most talented player in history and two other max contract all stars...he's better than some other NBA coaching legends.

Heat fans are so entertaining, they remind me of like Republicans during the late Bush years of economic collapse when the writing of the presidency was on the wall...never just identify themselves as Heat fans...always some sort of tiptoeing around it. Just own up to it, you're a fan.

Yep, comes with the territory of being an, at the time, unproven coach, coaching a team like the Heat. Rick Carlisle got fired by the Pistons, didn't mean he wasn't a great head coach. Stan Van Gundy was also a very good coach who got a tough deal with Riley taking over, people thought it would happen again, but Riley knew what he had in Spoelstra. That alone should be enough to admit he's a good coach.

And I don't follow the logic of saying he shouldn't get credit because of how much talent the Heat have. All NBA champions have tons of talent, you have to win four best of seven series to win the title. There aren't fluke champions like there are in the NFL and MLB. Popovich had Duncan and Robinson and later Parker and Ginobili. Jackson had Jordan and Pippen or Bryant and Shaq or Gasol. That doesn't make them any less of a good coach.

FIFY.

he also missed some clutch shots and didn't get Durant the ball enough.

If you are gonna talk **** about LeBron losing to the Mavericks,as all bulls fans love to do to make themselves feel better, it's the same thing.

I didn't bring up LeBron losing to the Mavericks. If I was going to bash LeBron about playoff performances it would be when he gave up on the Cavs. That Mavericks team was on fire. And Jason Terry was incredible.

If by 'missed some clutch shots' you mean that the Thunder lost... Well isn't that obvious? It wasn't Westbrook's fault that the Thunder lost to Miami last year. To continue to claim as much is foolish, and not worth debating.

The Mavs and Dirk were playing well, but LeBron's regular season to playoff series scoring average drop is the largest total drop in NBA history. That's just the hard #s of the situation whether you love him or hate him. Obviously the next year's dominating playoff run made up for it, but that series was a choke by LBJ.

Lol, people are seriously saying Spoelstra > Karl because Spoelstra has one ring (the most overhyped accomplishment in the NBA)??? Wow, we must have a lot of football fans in the thread.

How many decades will it be until there's a higher paid jump shooting specialist than Joe Johnson?

By people do you mean CyJack13? Because aside from him I don't people have said that.
