This sucks but I can't blame the kid. I have confidence that CMC and his crew will be able to sign another kicker.
The fact that Assalley has the 4th best FG% of all time shows that we’ve had some really bad kickers
I thought for sure he would take over as the placekicker this year over the walkon Assalley, and even more so when Assalley started struggling. Narveson had every opportunity to win the job and didn't.
Can't use up a scholarship on a kicker who isn't even kicking. Wish it would've worked out, but best of luck to him wherever he lands.
It seems like he admitted in an interview that when he was coming to Iowa State he just assumed the kicking job was his.
Kinda disappointing in that he was a pretty highly rated kicker as a recruit. Imagine he'll find a decent spot but maybe as a walk-on as he has to sit out and kicker schollies are not something schools hand out that liberally.
I remember reading about him when we first signed him. I was thinking that we finally had a kicker that could hit a long FG if we ever needed it. It sucks that he didn't pan out here, but hopefully he ends up somewhere that's a better fit.
FWIW, I would hate to be a kicker. You could hit 99 out of 100 field goals, but if that one miss costs you a game, that's what people will remember.

Do they have to enter the transfer portal at a certain time? It seems odd to me to announce before the bowl game.

Only 2-4 on fgs for the year and all were 40+ yarders. Staff must not have been too impressed with him in practice.

Ass kicking will continue for at least one more season it appears.
I feel like Mike Zimmer of the Vikings and Campbell could take Adam Vinatieri and give him the shanks.
I saw an Arizona State kicker transferred to Mississippi State. Not sure if that has to do with the timing.
It's pretty sad, and when you think about it Assalley's percentage probably should be even higher. He rarely even attempts long field goals.
