Matt Campbell starting his 2nd season in Ames by going 6-2 has led me to a debate with some friends. It has been said that if Matt Campbell stays in Ames for the long haul and has continued success, Iowa State would build a statue of him! If Iowa State was to ever name the football field after a previous coach, what would you like it to be? Note that we would never suggest that the stadium undergo a name change - we love Jack Trice and the story that goes with it!

Johnny Majors has a practice field named after him. As you said, Campbell has only been here for 2 years. So, I would go with McCarney because he took Iowa State to it's greatest season and brought back excitement to Cyclone football.
I've never been a fan of having a different name for a field/court versus the name of the staduim/arena. But maybe that's just me.
As long as it's preceded by "Historic" I don't care what it gets called.
Tom Petty Field since it is pretty obvious that his "Won't Back Down" song has been the difference maker! I know this will offend some that want Neil Diamond Field.....
No one in my book has earned that right, It used to be Jack Trice Field at Cyclone Stadium. Then we finally got it right and named the Stadium after JT. There is no one in the football program in my book that has earned that honor in my book. We leave it as it is JTS and not mess with it. Frankly, I think even suggesting it is premature at best. Maybe we should be pushing to get Jack Trice's number retired instead.
Lets revisit this topic in 5 years when Campbell has 1 CFP championship, 3 XII championships and 4 bowl wins.
If that happens, I'd rename the school.

Instead of TD Jesus, we should have TD Bo Williams.
We will probably end up naming the field after our 3 time heisman trophy winning QB that Campbell will have lead him to 3 different national titles. Obviously.
