Really, just how many times each week is a new "Fire D-Mac" or "If not D-Mac, then who" thread going to pop up?

This is a dead horse that has been beaten, beaten some more, soaked in diesel and then set on fire.

hey, how 'bout we hire coker from miami? i hear he's gonna be available after the end of the season...

by the way, for those who take these posts way too seriously, i'm just kidding about that. about the only thing the miami program has done all year is stomp on louisville's logo and then not follow it up by getting beat, and then getting involved in 3 brawls. there's program control...

Fire up the thread if we lose at home Saturday. Otherwise, we are on the comeback trail and we can extend his contract.

Loney is not the OC just the Oline coach so I doubt he calls the plays. The other thing to keep in mind is the Cards, like Cotton, have to call plays that the offense has a chance to execute. They have a sorry Oline like a team I know in Ames which really, severly, limits how much of the playbook can be used.

Didn't you recently go on about how you don't plan to donate any further money to the program - and...if I recall - said you'd rather have a new coach that win a BCS game?

And here...you give a pass to Loney and the Cardinal coaching staff because they have poor offensive line. Cited it limits play calling, etc.

So the ISU staff needs tossed under the bus, but the Cardinal coaches are not the problem - it's the players that need to execute.

Now to make sure I'm not putting words in your mouth - did I get that right? It seems black-n-white to me, but - I've been wrong before.

Call plays that the offense has a chance to execute??? Did you watch the 4th Quarter of the Cards game?? 3/4 of their play calls were Edge up the middle for no gain (or a fumble that was taken to the house).

If that game last night was coached by Mac, he would be KILLED on these boards today.

I'd put my house...well I don't have a house...but I'd put any amount of money down that we will win at least 1 game the rest of the season? Want to take that bet?

The MAJOR difference between the cardinals and ISU is Loney is in his first year dealing with the players has has been dealt. I am not a Cardinals fan (baseball or football) so I don't know makes player and talent decisions.

I liken Loney's situation to Cotton's. They both came on board to a team recently that talent wise is most likely not indicative of their coaching abilities. There have been player decisions at ISU (recruiting etc) that have resulted in what Barney has to work with. There have been player decisions in Arizona (draft, free agency etc.) that Steve has to work with. I think the problem is not the players and the execution, it is the management of player decisions that has put both teams where they are. In ISU's case that is Spin DMC who has contributed to the issue. In Arizona it is who ever handles the personnel management decisions.

By the way, I did not say I was not going to donate again, just not until something changes.

Does the fact that the plays called are not executed mean they were not the ones the coach thought most likely to be executed? Perhaps more complex plays would have been even greater failures (Int returned for a TD, QB sacked for a season ending injury, etc).

I did not say they call the plays the know will be executed, sometimes when the oline sucks, it sucks. I would say that holds for both teams.

If we could get Venables from Oklahoma, I'd let Mac go in a hearbeat. However, he'll have better offers than ISU coming down the pipeline.

Exactly what is Pollard suppose to do in the middle of the season but support Mac? It's not like he is going to come out in the middle of the season and say "Mac you suck". This wouldn't send a good message to perspective coaches.

My money is on the fact that Pollard already has a short list and he is "out flirting while still being married."

We don't know who we could get as a coach until we try......
 
Coaching thoughts

Now I know that a lot of fans think that we should get rid of Dan Mcarney (myself included), but I do have a question if we do get rid of Dan...who is available for next year to lead the cyclones??

I think we should fire Mac today and hire Tom Landry and maybe have Lombardi as the O-cord? Don't forget Madden as the Special teams coach. We could also give Barry Sanders his first coaching job at R-backs. I think we could win a lot of games like this and if we don't we will at least get sweet autographs.

No offense, but I'm tired of these "when Mac gets fired" threads. I'm not arguing that Mac should or should not continue as the coach. I'm just saying Mac isn't finished yet, and I'm starting to get a little defensive when people start coaching replacement threads and conversations. For all his faults, I've followed the guy for almost 13 years, and he deserves our respect, regardless of whether he continues as the head coach of the ISU football program.

I vote that ISU football coaching threads that talk about firing or hiring should be put on hold until after the season is over.
