Naked and Afraid TV Show

I've watched it because it's kinda cool to see what it's like when you're focused only on food, shelter, and fire rather than your crushing backlog of emails at work, or endless number of mind numbing meetings, or giving the dreaded performance evaluations, etc...

I'm somewhat of a survival enthusiast and like to learn different techniques. I don't see the point in forcing them to be naked in some of the extreme environments they go into. I watched the first few seasons and occasionally I'll watch but it typically turns into reality drama TV. The XL shows have wet my interests a bit, i will admit.

I will tune in if there’s nothing else on.
As for survival type shows, I really liked Dual Survival. Survivorman was good too, if you didn’t need high energy people running all over for TV and were interested in actual survival.
Don’t recall the name but there was a husband/wife one too that was pretty good.
Edit: Man, Woman, Wild.

Dual Survival and Survivorman were good shows. Although I was not a big fan of Cody on Dual and thought it got a lot better once he as no longer part of it. He knew a lot of stuff but had a bit of a stubborn ego or something that made for some tense moments with the various partners he had.

So the comment of Dual Survivor I had to go dig up this video. This was the last scenes of the Cody and Joe pairing. Cody always was a bit of a baby at times with his previous partners who just dealt with him but Joe basically didn't put up with it if it made their situation more difficult. I remember watching the scene where Cody is walking through the snow in Norway and before Joe even said it I was already saying "who in the hell goes in shorts in cold winter environment?" was the dumbest stunt Cody ever pulled. I know he's a bit of a hippy but that was just stupid to do. I can only imagine had they continued that episode he would have been in danger of frostbite so maybe he knew going in that was going to be the end of him on the show and just wanted to piss off Joe.

I really enjoyed the episodes when they paired up Joe with Matt as Matt was a bit like Cody but without the attitude and ego and was open to working as a partner where Cody became a bit of a dictator in the end and did not like to compromise.

Curious if anyone here has been watching the current XL season and had any thoughts? The whole Trish and Amber drama has been interesting, Amber worked her ass off while Trish was always pissy when asked to help out some then she has the guts while passing by on extraction day for her and Jen to tell Amber she "left them to rot." Funny thing about that is Amber left them in great shape and basically built the damn raft mostly herself that they were using to leave. They were basically plotting to leave Amber in the middle of the night earlier too find if funny she still was jaded over whatever her problem is with her even while Amber was telling her how proud she was of them to finish their their 40 day challenge. Glad Trish isn't going for 60 days because the remaining people are all fun to watch and and good working together.

Was reading some stuff on social media as apparently there is some "controversy" about how the edits portrayed some things this season and "savage" Matt Wright who may just be the best survivalist ever on the show had a good post about how while the final edit condenses thousands of hours of footage down to hundreds of hours. If you looked like a ***** or ass or lazy in the edits you usually were that for good portions of the challenge. He went on to add that even though you could be a great human being outside of the show that you can't blame an edit for looking a certain way because that was how you were during the challenge. All I know is that if it was me that was trying to make it 40 or 60 days in the Amazon jungle and I had a teammate that was consistently getting food and doing a lot of work I wouldn't be bitter towards them even if I felt like they were talking down to me as unless you are doing more work than they are and bringing back food you really don't have much room to be pissed when they ask you to clean some fish to cook or help patch up your shelter so you aren't sitting in cold, wet rain when it storms.

Can't get this in depth but I've only caught a little of this and from what I could tell, Amber is doing a ton of work but for whatever reason there's a mutiny of some sort against her. Maybe she's too bossy or something but seems like she's doing a ton while others are hardly involved.

I don't want to spoil anything if you are not up to date on your episodes but your assessment is pretty much spot on. Amber does the bulk of the work but seems like her and Trish are both alpha personalities so while Trish and Jen are back at the shelter doing art and craft time weaving a door or building a bed or something else and Amber is out catching their meal for the day Trish feels she is being talked down to because Amber asks if they could clean the fish she brought back and cook them. It's just everyday drama where someone takes the tone or the way they are asked to do something too personally then instead of letting them know that they just have a pissy attitude toward them and talk behind their back. Not sure if you have gotten far enough in where Jeff (who I find obnoxious from previous seasons) joins them but the mutiny talk really comes out once he is there.

I can see why they didn't like Amber. She was a micromanager. It was like since she was "the mentor" she was the boss. She wasn't the boss. I would have told her to stuff it too.

I was telling my daughter that AJ is probably the worst "legend" survivor they have. I don't think I've ever seen this "legendary" hunter bag anything on any of his challenges. Even the eels they caught in one of the XL shows was because of someone else, not him. My daughter vehemently disagreed with me, citing his many successful challenges, but I contend that if it wasn't for the other survivalists on most of them, he would have been toast.

I like EJ. He's had a rough go hunting this time but he didn't sign up for 60 days, they brought him Jeff and Matt all in after the early wave of tap outs to help those remaining. I don't doubt his survival skills, he's been on N&A several times and made it through the last XL in the Louisiana swamp which was brutal plus he and Jeff both have been on Dual Survival too. He may not have caught anything yet this season but watching him in the past I would be glad to have him on my side if I was in a survival situation because he has a good work ethic and attitude. Matt obviously would be most people's first choice, I don't think I've ever really seen him struggle or cause drama on the show.

They started a new frozen season this weekend. I dunno how they do it, there is no way you'd catch me in below freezing temps bare ass naked with only some hides to stay warm. I'd much rather do a challenge in the extreme heat than cold as its easier to cool off than it is to warm up and you burn less calories too. Of course Trish from the last XL season is on this one and she hasn't left the shelter so far which doesn't surprise me because that is where she spent most of her time last season in the Amazon too. I died laughing when she volunteered to stay in the shelter to watch the fire while her 2 partners who were both hurting would go out and do the hard work. One has already tapped out because his back hurt from doing all the work, LOL!

Anyone watching the new XL season "Last One Standing"? Really like the new challenge format of this one where they have to move every 7 days for the first 21 days of the 45 day challenge and do a survival skill challenge before they can search for items in the new area. I think it's going to get really interesting after day 21 as it will essentially be everyone for themselves somewhat because the goal is to be the first one to extraction when the last 3 day phase opens up. Already seeing some lines in the sand being drawn with everyone annoyed with Jeff and now working together to make sure he isn't able to hoard all the items going forward. Always found Jeff annoying on previous seasons and he's already living up to his reputation. Would love to see his partner screw him over and tap out before day 21 to eliminate him too but I doubt anyone is going to willingly tap out of this season unless they've just had it. Any season that has Matt "savage" on it is usually good, that guy is just a survival beast and his calm/cool personality makes him very likable too. Steven is a fun one to watch too, it's funny how he was paired up with Jeff on another XL season and now he's getting annoyed with him too like everyone else has always been.

Just going to check in 1 more time to see if anyone is watching the "Last One Standing" XL season right now? Never really liked Jeff in other seasons but he's really taken his selfish and annoying ways to a whole new level this season.

He will eventually medical default.

Maybe, I mean he is eating some humble pie right now for being a selfish a-hole and now that he's injured himself twice he's in a bad spot with having pissed off everyone. I get that he's playing the long game of trying to win the season but you can't burn all your bridges if you want to get there. If you watched last night it was just amazing to watch him double down on this when everyone basically was having an intervention with him and trying to extend an olive branch to him. Now he's just screwed unless Gary keeps sneaking him food or something because any chance he had to patch up things and get some help while he is hurt just went out the door last night.

Jeff was even throwing his own pity party how when Matt cut his finger everyone was helping him make shelter and fire and he didn't get any of that. Well yeah Jeff that is because Matt is not a dbag and everyone knows even if Matt has a good chance of winning that their chance of making it to the end with the health and energy they would need to have a chance to beat him they have to work with him because he'll likely help them and share food too. As he is finding out now 1 injury can completely mess up your plans. None of them knows what awaits them later one before it's everyone for themselves to the finish. They may have to give up everything they found before extraction is a possibility but it's short sighted of him to think that its not in all their best interests to work together some to be healthy enough to make the 3 day extraction on your own at the end of this. Cheeny was almost to the point of being medically tapped herself and look at what a little bit of food has done that turned her fate around. She would have never made it on her own so just an example of how you can't be a jerk to everyone as you never know when you may need their help.

The only mind game Jeff is playing is about himself. He pretty much has alienated himself and it is deserved. He'll end up tapping because he can't take a crap, and no one will give a crap about him. That is how one of the guys on the show, who already tapped, went out in one of the all-star shows.

Probably, Wes is the other one you were thinking of that had to tap out on a previous season because he couldn't poop but at least he was likable. Jeff had to medically tap out of an XL season too when he got sick from something and was lying around the shelter for days while all the girl drama with Amber was playing out. These survival shows it is crazy how something as simple as something you eat or drink or one wrong move that injuries you can knock you down quick. Even with 2 bonehead injuries of his own doing this time he still has the nerve to play victim when they all tried to give him a chance to reset. I had the same reaction as Waz who just walked off and basically told him he's still an a-hole. Jeff in his mind is playing to win which in that part he is right that is the goal but in the process he's forgetting that in order to get to the end you still have to survive and trying to undercut and undermind people that have skills and resources you may need to get there is bad strategy. It doesn't help he already had a reputation coming in as being selfish too. The funny thing about Jeff is I first remember him from Dual Survival when he was paired with EJ (another Naked and Afraid legend) and he was not such a douche on that show.

I've always felt that Matt has been the best survivalist in the show's history and that probably causes Jeff to be a little jealous I'm sure because he thinks he is and wants to prove it and it doesn't help that everyone else likes Matt too. I like pretty much everyone still left, Gary is fun to watch as he does some crazy things which is his downfall at times too because he's had to be medically tapped multiple times for some bad choices. Waz and Dan seem like good guys and I remember Matt mentoring them on some skills on a past XL challenge like how to shoot a bow and process animals and such and now they are a lot more confident and experienced as a result. Cheeny is obvious the weakest of the bunch because of her size but love her attitude and work ethic and she isn't blind to the fact she needs to eat consistently else she can't make it. Steven is right up there with Matt too with his skills and is likable guy too. You can tell that outside of Jeff they all have a lot of mutual respect for each other and they've all been on previous seasons together at some point. Could get interesting when it's everyone for themselves in the end.
