Nader arrested for OWI?

If it's found he was unlawfully pulled over (happens often in Ames) the charge will be dropped. Someone who is heavily active in the legal system would know. You can call me an idiot and I may very well be wrong, just my opinion.

Fair enough. What I'm saying is with OWIs in Iowa, if you have a good case or attorney you can normally get the charges dropped. No charges, no reason he should miss any games.

If the charges stand, I think you are completely right and I will eat crow, and lose $20.

I stand by my bet regardless of the charges being dropped or not.

Completely within the realm of possibility, but my guess is Nader isn't going to school for Pre-Law. He's at the mercy of the judge barring any kind of foul up by the police. They don't normally go too easy on young people who like to drink and drive.

He ran a red light. Seems like a lawful reason for being pulled over.

Even if the charges get dropped, there is no questions Nadar drank and drove. Fred should still punish, regardless of what the courts decide. It will be a 2 or 3 game suspension, and nothing more.

Cop could have said it was a red light why he pulled him over. Witnesses and possibly dash board camera can prove it may have been green.

Doesn't give him an excuse to drive while intoxicated. I'm not saying that. Just saying he's innocent until proven guilty.

Hes guilty of drinking and driving and I don't think there is any question on that. Should he of actually been pulled over in the first place, who knows?

Regardless, Fred should not make a decision based off the Courts conclusion.

I have multiple friends that had their OWI downgraded to a Deferred Judgement. It won't show up on their record after a year or two of clean driving. I could see this happening. Will the OWI charge get completely dropped? No. But could it get downgraded to a DJ? Maybe.

This sound too familiar. Not sure we want to be in a situation like that again.

I don't think he should get suspended for a few games, but he probably will just for the sake of PR. If it happened during the season yes, but it happened in April. Plenty of time to handle this situation internally and not carry it over into next season.

I just worry that the NCAA might come down with sanctions if we are too lenient with these type of situations. We already got a firm talking to about texting after bed time....

I assume the OWI will stand, but all it takes is for one procedural thing to be done incorrectly for it to be thrown out, eg. breathalyzer not taken till at the station, some due process not followed or whatever. I've known people that got off on something like that.

Count me in as one who doesn't really care if he's suspended for a couple games or not; punishment should fit the crime and basketball has nothing to do with drinking and driving. And I'm no drinking and driving apologist. I am a big proponent of long license suspensions and ignition locks; you know, things that actually reduce subsequent drinking and driving and make the roads safer for all of us.

I think if you get arrested you deserve some sort of suspension no matter what the arrest is for, even if the charges are dropped. For basketball a game sounds good, maybe less for football because there are fewer games. Because of the charge and the timing (a couple days after the Veishea riot) I put the over/under at 2.5 games.

There are no black and white rules...let's say you punch Fran McCaffrey in the face after he throws a chair at you and deposits spittle on your face as he's spewing his rage....and he wants to press charges...so it's processed, but then the judge throws it out because...I mean, who wouldn't want to punch Franny in the face? Someone should be suspended for that? Nah, man, they should be named captain.

Now that is just dumb. You can get arrested for murder and then the charges are dropped because they find they have the wrong ricochet - you should be suspended for that? I get that if you did something and you get off on a technicality that shouldn't preclude some sort of AD discipline - however not every arrest is because the person legitimately did something wrong.

What does texting improperly according to the rules have to do with an OWI which there is no set rule about?
