My Take on Barnes

Well said and I couldn't agree more. I am elated that he is choosing now, so we don't have to put up with more home detectives trying to glean info from some action of HB. Just let him pick and lets move on with our lives.

Hey guys, just my take on Barnes.

- Personally, I am mentally prepared that he will select UNC or Duke.

- I will be super excited if he selects ISU.

- I will be super ****** off if he goes to KU.

- I will be super confused if he selects OU or UCLA.

I put our odds more at 25%, between UNC, Duke, KU and ISU.

Yeah I am in the same boat as you. Will be thrilled if we get him, disappointed a little if we don't, but flat-out ****** off if he goes to KU!

Still don't think the kid has the audacity to invite the public to a press conference to announce he's going elsewhere. If I have any source of optimism, this is it.

You think he's firmly entrenched?

It's hard to say. This kid doesn't act like your usual 17 year old so it's impossible to tell.

Most would not consider the possibility of delivering bad news to your hometown in front of hundreds of people nor would they do it early and have to stick around the rest of the year. With HB, I guess you just don't know because he hasn't acted like a teenager in all of this.

Not saying it means he's coming here, just saying it's my biggest source of optimism.

Here's my take, since i know everyone is super-interested in it :jimlad:

1. Throw Oklahoma out - HB has said academics are important, and this school doesn't fit academically with the others.

2. Throw UCLA out - Mom has said that HB is a small-town kid, and this is the only big town school on the list.

3. Throw KU out - recent fight between Basketball and football dissuades HB from going here. The throwdown style isn't him, he's too cerebral to hang with these guys.

4. Throw ISU out - wants to win national championship, probably not here unless Brackins stays (which makes the new rumors of Brackins on the fence about his senior year interesting)

5. Throw Duke out - wants a business undergrad school, this is more of a business grad school. Plus, elite private school doesn't seem to be HB, as indicated by his commitment to stay in Ames his senior year.

That leaves UNC as the most likely candidate, IMHO: Strong business school, national champion contender, small-town atmosphere

That also means that if the rumor that kg-cyclone posted about Brackins being 50/50 about returning for his senior year is true, that this might be motivation for HB coming to ISU.

I don't know if I would say that UNC has a better business school than Duke. My father played basketball at ISU and then went on to Harvard Business School. That would be the better way for him to go!

My take on Barne's decision.

He doesn't fit well with the Kansas players, they're too thuggish. Grew up a die hard Iowa State and UNC fan. Eliminates Duke. Deep down in his heart, he hates Roy Williams for pummeling Iowa State with Iowa players, and he want's to stick it to him.

Signs with Iowa State.

Maybe he'll take into account these other schools only want him to go there so they can win and coach gets paid. McD has to be the one who cares the most about Harrison and Harrison doing well, but obviously it helps his job as well.

from what i've read, Duke doesn't have an undergrad business college. Graduate program yes, but no undergrad.

Neither does Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, or most elite Universities. That doesn't mean that they don't prepare you better for the world of business than UNC would.

FWIW, the general rumblings from the UNC and Duke fan bases at this moment are that Duke is the more likely choice of the two. It's far from unanimous, but that appears to be the general sentiment. I know a few UNC players, Dexter Strickland and Ed Davis, expressed that they were hearing Barnes to Duke a few days ago.

As a Duke fan, I'll be honest in saying that I didn't consider ISU a possible destination throughout most of this recruitment. Recently, though, I've come to believe that ISU has a significantly better chance than I gave them credit for. Still don't believe ISU is the most likely destination, but I'd be more surprised to see Barnes go to UCLA or OU than ISU.

I think we can all agree that Friday can't get here soon enough.

...and why would that be? Exactly...but thanks for your honesty.

Well the first part is because when Duke and UNC are in recruiting battles for elite recruits, the kid almost always has his home town school on the list and yet rarely chooses them (the exceptions have tended to be for schools like Washington, Georgia Tech, and Florida off the top of my head).

The second part is for a few reasons. First of all, as we've learned throughout this recruiting battle, Harrison Barnes is not your average elite recruit. The second reason would be because with the total lack of reliable information, I tend to take him at his word that he's considering all 6 (even if I never believed they were equal). And I suppose the final reason is that from reading this board for close to a year, the fan support and area connection to ISU seems to be above most other schools and thus I can see how ISU is a reasonable option for anyone who grew up in the area.

All of that makes sense. Many don't regard ISU for doing anything in basketball, but I've said before, we have a strong basketball history with a few hard breaks. A lot of national pundits don't seem to acknowledge this, and that goes equally for the fans of the elite programs.
