Here is my theory on the whole timing of this situation. Lucca almost got hurt at the end of the Nebraska game and I think it scared him way too much. Remember the loose ball at the end of the game where somebody jumped and landed on his legs? He has already had knee problems in the past. I remember the McDermott quote that doctors said he had the knees of a 35 year old. I think Lucca completely panicked when he almost got hurt again and said I better sign a contract before I get hurt. Not a good reason but about the only thing I can come up with to explain the timing. I just hope he didn't sign the deal before he quit or we could have to possibly forfeit wins.

Really? Take a step back and think about it. Pro ball pays money. College ball doesn't.
I think it has a lot more to do with him sitting the last 9 minutes of the game (until he came in to shoot free throws).
Fear of injury could be part of it, but I think he also looked at Craig's situation and thought it may cost Craig a lot of money not going pro last year, and maybe Lucca didn't want to risk not taking this opportunity, and yes, a reinjury or new injury could mean he'd never get a chance to go pro. There may also be other factors involved that none of us know about.
Don't care. Most people I know felt that he didn't deserve to even start. It was speculated by some on here that a major reason he remained in the starting lineup was because his ego is so fragile. I have no idea if that's true, but I can't imagine McDermott believing that Lucca is a better basketball player than Christopherson.
But maybe Lucca didn't recognize that and thought he should be playing even more or have more plays run for him. Afterall, he had aspirations of playing in the NBA until about two days ago. Whoever gave him that false hope must also be a huge fan of Devan Bawinkel.
The issue isn't that we lost a great player. We didn't. It's that we lost a body, and we're kind of running out.

I agree. You can answer a question with another question, but it can't be the same question.
What more of a role could he want? He was a great shooter and pretty good passer but played NO defense. What he scored he usually gave up on the defensive end anyway. I don't think his departure is really going to hurt much in the long run. Christopherson will probably get some open looks in the next few games that Lucca didn't get because he isn't "feared" yet by other Big 12 coaches. Give Lucca's minutes to Christopherson and Buckley and I think we will be just fine.
I answered his question earlier. I asked because I'm guessing he knows. Or at least more than we do. He just doesn't want to say, and that's fine.
