My neighbor is mowing his lawn this morning. Is this good, bad, or makes no difference?

Inquiring minds want to know before swapping out the mower deck for the snowblower.

I lowered my deck and mowed the lawn until I ran out of gas on Thanksgiving Day.
Took a lot longer than I thought it would.
I was also bagging up the leaves that had blown into my yard earlier in the week.

I use the mulching system on my 50" deck to take care of the leafs up until the first snow flies. It very much looks like I'm mowing my lawn when using it. :D

I'm curious on what model tractor and snow thrower attachment. :)

Good to mulch the leaves and fine as long as you aren't trimming much off the grass blades.

I have a neighbor that basically declares war on any leaf in his yard. I don't call it mowing so much as "yard vacuuming". They are excellent neighbors but they do go crazy when it comes to leaves. I am not exaggerating when I say that they have run their mower and bagged leaves a minimum of 3 times/week since October. And we do not have a ton of mature trees in our neighborhood.

In central Iowa, with temps dipping below 40 at night, the grass isn't really growing anymore. Because of that, I wouldn't recommend mowing the lawn.

In October, I like to progressively lower the blade each time I mow and by the time I perform my last mowing before the cold temps stick (this year was right after Halloween), I'm around 2" - 2 1/2" mowing height (down from my normal 3 1/2' - 4"). I don't roll the lawn on the last mow either - just want a nice, clean, low cut heading into winter and snow cover.

Some people like to keep the grass long going into winter, but I prefer short to help ward off snow mold in the spring.

We have two trees in our backyard that still had 80% of their leaves as of last weekend. Ankeny isn't providing the free drop off this late in the year, so I'm gonna mulch as much as I can until there's snow on the ground.
