Moving to Denver

Just found out there is a good chance of ending up in Denver soon.

Does anybody live there or has anyone lived there that has any advice for areas to look at?

My wife and I are looking for apartments that are fairly cheap but in a young neighborhood with lots of walkable restaurants and such. Downtown is a little expensive but it seems like Highland and LoDo are are nice ares with decent apartment rates. We are open to any neighborhoods but would prefer a more central location. My wife will be out at the hospital in Aurora.

Just curious if anyone has any advice. Thanks!
 
You'll never get bored on weekends! Wish i lived closer so I could ski there more than once a year.
 
I can't hate on Denver. Don't know about living, but it's a great place to visit. They get snow and it can get cold, but seems like winters are actually a bit more tame overall than Iowa winters are.
 
1991, depends what you are looking for but there is something for everyone. What part of town you working in? Kids? etc, PM if you like and I can give you my 2 cents, heck, make it 3 cents worth.

I've lived in the Denver-Boulder area for 20 years. It has been awesome.
The one downside is that the housing market is pretty expensive at the moment. I saw something on the news that said the Rental market has never been more expensive, so good luck.

I can say that there is a development near 8th and Colorado that should be nice. They are building right now on a former hospital. It isn't far from Cherry Creek, Downtown, City Park..... Hopefully they will start opening some of the units toward mid summer.

If you like city living, I would also suggest looking at Capitol Hill for some of the older appartment buildings.
 
Medical card for what? There is a place called Sticky Buds about 2 blocks from my home (and other places all over town) that you can buy for recreational purposes.

I've lived in Denver for 2 years and love it. I actually know somebody that works out of a hospital in Aurora. Highlands is really popular, but another neighborhood to check out is the River North (RiNo) area. It's more up-and-coming, I guess. Lots of cool restaurants and breweries in the area.

been here five years. Place is rad, 300 days of sunshine a year, legal pot, young transplant city, close to the mountains. those are the positives.

Traffic sucks as we don't have the infrastructure for all the new people coming in. Rental market is crazy, my sister pays 950 for a 500 sq/ft studio in Cap Hill with no parking spot. Buying in the city is just under 400 sq/ft right now for a nice place. Highlands is very cool but if you are looking for "affordable" than you better be living in New York, Chicago, LA , San Fran or San Diego right now because those are the only cities that Denver is a bargain for. More people between 18-30 are moving here than any other city, but there are still lots of jobs available. I lived in Uptown, congress Park, Cap Hill and now live in Park Hill (by the zoo) because we have a kid and it is more family oriented over here. Stay away from Aurora. If anyone gets shot in Denver, its in Aurora.

All depends on what you and your lady deem affordable. If you don't mind spending 1700-2200 on rent then you will be fine. You might have to thunderdome people for apartments as they go fast. and word of advice, when going to apartment showings, take your completed application and deposit check with you because good apartments are on the market for hours not days, and the person behind you will probably snatch it up.

But welcome to the city, enjoy the breweries, our ****** drivers, Breckendridge resort with all the other new people and Texans, and fairweather Bronco fans.

I have a few ISU friends who live in the Arvada area who really enjoy it out there. And it really seems like there's quite a few ISU grads/fans all around the area!
