Moving Company

I think if you're an adult and have your **** together, asking friends/family to help you move is a bit of a **** request IMO.

No one wants to dedicate their weekend to helping you move. Like the prior posters said, hiring a moving company like 2 men and a truck isn't that expensive.

Eh, speak for yourself. I'm happy to volunteer to help friends move whenever I can (including using my truck). I see it as a day hanging out with friends, having some beers, and helping them way more than some ****** housewarming present would.

I also fix stuff around my house, clean my own stuff, mow my own grass, etc. Some people prefer to pay someone else to do that, some of us would rather use the money for other things.

Moving from KS to WI this winter.

We are hiring a mover, but we have never used one before. This is paid for so we really don't have to worry a ton about cost. That being said, I am not packing a POD or anything like that. The most we will do is maybe pack boxes that they can put on a truck.

Anyone have experience with a long distance move?

We are leaning towards a more local company and really want our stuff to be the only load on the truck and delivery time to basically be the time it takes to drive there.

Pack your own boxes or let them?

Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Depends on the contract terms, I suppose, but generally they don't want you touching anything for liability purposes (except the stuff they can't carriage, like hazardous or flammable materials). Besides, if cost is no issue and you aren't paying for it (presume an employer-paid relocate?), then why would you anyway? Let the pros take care of it all. They will then cover any damages, mishaps, etc.
