Moved to MN. Interesting observations

Lived in MN for the past 4 years. It is very clearly a Vikings, Twins, Wild town. Literally no one cares about the Timberwolves. You actually find most Gophers fans outside of the cities in smaller towns. Most people I worked with actually went to a MN D2 or D3 school. Not a ton of Gophers alumn. Tons of St Thomas grads and they are very very proud of the fact that they went there….and paid $50k a year.
I'm being serious here, If the New owners of the Timberwolves decide to move the team to Seattle, I will help them pack the trucks. The Wolves have been an embarrassment for over 30 years now. Free agents don't want to play here. I really don't think many people would notice if they left. They are a disasterous experiment.

See any tavern Gophers?
The Gophers fans up here are pretty tame. They don't really get in your face or talk trash. They have (however) had severe lapse of judgement and had sex in Metrodome bathrooms with Hok fans.

Something I have noticed is that ISU made a huge push in the last 15 years to make out of state tuition really competitive with in-state tuition for Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin (especially for those performing well academically). Along with more students overall, there was certainly an influx of students from surrounding states. I see a ton more ISU gear when in those states and Missouri than I ever did before (almost none)

They are the worst pro sports franchise and it’s not close.

Iowa State (tuition-only, no other expenses):
Out of state is $24k/year.
In state is $8,300/year

Minnesota (tuition-only, no other expenses):
Out of state is $34k/year
In state is $15,400/year

Ran a quick Google because none of the kids in my neighborhood are going to an Illinois school. It's kind of crazy

Per the Googles:
ISU in state - $9320/yr
ISU out of state - $24,508

Illinois in state - $15,123
Illinois out of state - $32,264

An extra $9k a year for a kid to leave Illinois for school..... totally worth the cost

The corn maze in the northwest suburbs does a team theme every year. They have done Twins, Wild, Timberwolves, Vikings and Gophers in the time we have been going. I was surprised that this year their theme was St. Thomas.

Still weird to me the Twin Cities could've been the landing spot of the Dodgers and the Raiders ended up in Oakland (Later-Los Angeles-Oakland-Las Vegas) because of the Twin Cities.

This doesn't even touch on a team named "Lakers" playing in Los Angeles.

The Minneapolis Lakers left for LA in 1960. Considering there are no 10,000 lakes of consequence near LA.......maybe they should have changed the name.

1) I care about the Timberwolves (Ant and Slendy are our saviors)
2) Screw St Thomas, that's all

We moved to Minnesota this year and I've noticed a few Iowa State-related things.

*I see more Iowa State apparel now than I did up here 10 years ago.

*Hawkeye apperal outnumbers Iowa State apparel 10-1+.

*I see a lot of Gopher sweatshirts but maybe 3 cars with Gopher license plates. It's not "a thing" up here like it is in Iowa.

*When we lived in Iowa for a decade, I did not meet one single Minnesota alumni who lived in Ames/Des Moines. I know they exist, but that seems on purpose :)

*Half this town went to NDSU, or at least they're the proudest fan base

*College football exists, but it's a niche activity. It's weird to not be surronded by collegeite football fans.
Enjoy it. I couldn't move out of Minnesota fast enough.

Same for WI, MN, and IL. Freshman that meet certain academic criteria receive a tuition break of 7K-11K/yr for 4 years. $7K/yr (28K total) just for having a GPA of 3.0 in HS. Can make it even more affordable than some in state colleges and this program has been going on for 10+ years. Also get a further break if a legacy.

I've noticed a similar lack of interest in college sports in Colorado. My daughters both go to CU-Boulder. I figured there'd be Buffs fans all over. There aren't. I can see the lights from Air Force Falcons stadium from my house. A week ago they were just barely outside the Top 25. The only people I know who go to the games are ISU alums who just go for something to do on a weekend. It's weird.
That was a huge shock to me when I lived in Co Springs too. I couldn't believe how completely off the radar college sports were. I was a CFB geek, so I went to a few AFA games and went to a CSU game when they were ranked. AFA is an interesting atmosphere, but I never went to a game vs. another service academy, so the atmosphere was pretty lame. CSU environment was terrible. They were like #16 at the time (early 2000s) and the crowd was terrible. Maybe 20k.

People had a general idea if the Buffs were good, but along the lines of people in central Iowa seeing Grandview on the local news so they have an idea of how good the team is. People didn't really follow or care.
