Most pleasant surprise(s)

Percy's scoring ability. Never would have guessed he would be our second best post scorer this year.

I was really impressed with how effective SC became at dribble penetration. He wasn't a great finisher at the rim, but he created a lot of nice looks for others when he was able to beat get past the defense.

To start the year, he had a very tough time at PG and last year he was really only a threat from 3.

He really impressed (& surprised) me with him improvement in creating shots for others as the year progressed.

I'll go with Percy's offense, and Booker and McGee's rebounding and 3-pt shooting.

I was expecting nothing from booker, especially on D. He turned out to be a pretty exciting shot blocker with a nice three point stroke.

Ejim turned into a flat out stud. The kid works harder on the court than any Cyclone I can remember. Playing with his size on 6'9 6'10 guys and being extremely effective. I was also surprised with how good his mid range jumper was.

Royce... well we knew Royce would be good... but wow. I never had any idea he would dunk on so many people. His passing skills are second to none.

My final one is Fred Hoiberg. I think a lot of people thought Fred would be a bit lost without Lutz in his corner. In fact, I think he coached extremely well this year coming up with some pretty great game plans, especially defensive game plans.

Biggest surprise to me was actually our ability to give teams some mercy when we're up double digits and let them come back into (and even win) some games.

Need the ability to step on the throat and put teams down by 25 baby

why was that a surprise? That's nothing new.

CFH's ability to make adjustments and get his kids to come back when our opponents make a run on us. In past years, our team would've collapsed. Not anymore.

I also liked the fact that, when the opponent took the fast breaks away from ISU, they developed a pretty decent half-court game. Sorely needed.

Tyrus's hustle. That guy is all over the place when we needed it the most.

Ejim's rebounding.

Punking A&M twice in the season. Made them look like a Jr. High team.

I could tell that fred wouldn't let our guys give up from watching DG play last year.

Just like you could tell that Fred ran the timeouts last year just by watching. It was pretty evident that Fred's the driving force here since day one.

Honestly, I didn't see this year as very surprising. It's what I expected to see. Sometimes they got there in different ways than I expected, but it all seemed just about like I expected.

My most pleasant surprise is that I feel like Hoiberg may already be the second best coach in the Big 12 from a purely coaching standpoint.

I also think he may be the third best recruiting coach already as well. I won't get too into that other than to say two schools have a natural recruiting edge built in and one school is Miracle Recruiting U.

I love to watch the teams chemistry develope over the season, especially when we got to the big 12.

I loved watching White when he got pumped up, especially the "Im the best player on the court," gave me chills.

Our defense especially babb was awesome.

Our offense grew from being almost unwatchable to where you couldn't stop watching

I think the correct answer to this question has to be Hoiberg for most of us. I remember many threads bashing fred and his inability to coach and how lutz did everything for us.

To me it seems like he has it figured out. Thats if our talent isnt just good that we win all the games that we should so far. But I dont think thats the case.

My only worry about him was the fact that he never got excited on the sideline but I think we finally got the answer that in the UK game.

In addition to just about everything that has already been written on this subject I'll add how well we played on the road, especially in conference. I know that the bottom half of the conference was pretty poor, but we dominated teams like Texas Tech and A & M in their own buildings, and the win at K-State was HUGE. Past teams (i.e. McDermott's teams) didn't win those games. Even in most of our road losses we were pretty competitive (@ Kansas, @ Missouri, @ OSU). Being competitive on the road and winning the games you should win is a great sign of a strong program, and I was delighted with how we performed away from Hilton this season.

My biggest surprise was how much i would enjoy watching this team. I never thought i would be sitting around on Sunday just counting the days to watch them play again. Just awesome to watch play. Surprised by Bubu coming back from that injury and playing really well, a player like him is what makes college ball great. He is all heart and hustle. I was also glad to have Booker and the sort of emotion he brought to the floor, he did get some T's but his play was big in some key games, even though it may have been unnoticed.

Win over KU. Most surprised how Iowa State contained many elite front court players (Davis, T-Rob, Withey, Drummond etc).

With Bubu, when he was shooting free throws in the UK game, I thought to myself, "I wonder how great this feels for him and his family... you walk on to your hometown basketball team and now you're shooting free throws in the NCAA Tournament in a close game against the No. 1 team in the country."

I thought that was pretty cool.

I loved Scottie put this team on his back on several occasions. He was a great team leader that will definitely go down as one of my all time favorites.
