Most Physical BBall Team in Recent Memory?

I disagree with your assessment of Tyrus on the defensive end. He doesn't get enough credit for his defense. He wasn't Babb, but he was very active on the defensive end

I guess by active you mean fouling a 3 point shooter shooting twice a game. I hope Thomas is better defensively than McGee or ISU defense will be bad...

Tyrus did foul on the 3 a lot, and won't make all-century ISU defensive team. But he was Mr. Hustle, a dynamo from 3-point range 3 and embraced his role as 6th man even though he could have been regular starter at SG. We can't have everything.

Stevie was 6' 4", tops.

Bankhead and Pratt never took a breather on defense, ever. Might have had something to do with the coach.

Correct, Stevie was not very tall but man was he a joy to watch. He was very highly touted out of high school but his bread and butter was being stronger than anyone else on the court.

The past couple of years we've had a lot of trouble with guarding PG's but this year we look like we will much better at this. We will sorely miss Babb though. I don't think his contributions to our defense can be overstated.

Don't forget about Vroman. I loved watching that guy get right in someones face when he would guard him. He had to be a nightmere to deal with.

Maybe. 04-05 was a pretty tough group. Stinson, Blalock, Homan, Staple and a young Rahshon Clark.

Jackson had more finesse. Homan was the nasty dude. He put a hell of a fight up against May in the round of 32 in '05 NCAA's.

Old Kenny Pratt makes our Thuglife look squeeeky clean. Pratt has to be on the team.

I believe Stevie was listed at 6'4" and Marcus at 6'8" and it was strongly believed that neither was that tall, even by basketball height listing standards.

I was impressed with how much Homan bulked up in four years. He was a stick when he got here, but had a pretty beefy body by the time he was a senior.

Very active in trying to find the person he was supposed to be guarding

Homan was really the only one who showed up for that game. Didn't he have a career game, going over 20 in both points and rebounds?

Homan: 19 Pts, 20 Reb
May: 24 Pts, 17 Reb

Extremely even matchup.

The last really physical team ISU had was 99-00 when Fizer was still here. I really don't think ISU has had a very physical team since then.

I'm not too sure how physical ISU will be with CFH as head coach. I think we can see that his teams will be very athletic, very offense-oriented with more finesse than physical play. ISU may have some individual physical players, but I just doubt an ISU team will be looked at as being very physical overall.

Yeah, he was over active and out of position ALL (alot of the time so this doesn't get nit-picked) the time. I don't dispute active because he was always hustling. But don't confuse hustle for good defense.

After watching youtube videos of Deandre Kane, Dustin Hogue and Richard Amardi today a quote came to mind from Mike Brey after our mathup with Notre Dame last year. He said ISU's roster was full of men. Grown men he said. Those three certainly are grown A men and they play with an attitude! Hogue and Amardi are impressive, very explosive athletes. Go watch their youtube videos if you haven't done so already. There's been a lot of discussion this week and I've gotta agree with CW my projected starting lineup is:

PG: Deandre Kane 6'4" 200 lbs
G: Matt Thomas 6'4" 190
G: Dustin Hogue 6'6" 220
F: Melvin Ejim 6'6" 230
F: Georges Niang 6'7" 245

Now no knock on Korie, Will or Tyrus from last year but they weren't exactly pit-bulls on the defensive end. I personally have never seen a more physically intimidating backcourt at ISU than what I posted above. Kane will be a bear for every point guard not named Marcus Smart. Matt Thomas might be the most physically ready guard we've had since Hoiberg. Hogue is a freak athlete and will be a lockdown defender i.e. Babb. Ejim and Niang. Let's just say I'm not worried about them. Those two boys play with their hair on fire.

I expect this team to be better than last year by season's end. That lineup is capable of some incredible defense and I think we all know we can score it at a high clip.

You officially got me pumped for bball. Thank you.

Tyrus was VERY active on defense but completely unaware half the time. He fouled on a 3 point shot in about 4 consective games at one point mid-season. I loved his hustle and intensity but Tyrus got lost. A lot.

By 2020, Marcus Fizer will have shrunk to 6'4", Stevie Johnson will have played on one leg, and Jacy Holloway will have stopped time with his steadiness.

As nasty as Tinsley, Nurse and Horton were my main point was to highlight how big (physical stature) this backcourt is going to be. If they adopt the same mentality that '00 squad did than watch out.

PG - Tinsley 6'3" 195 Kane 6'4" 200
SG - Nurse 5'11" 190 Thomas 6'4" 190
SF - Horton 6'1" 225 Hogue 6'6" 215

That's nearly a foot difference combined as a group. I agree the '00 squad sets the standard but D I've never seen a bigger group. Turn them into bullies Freddy!
