I thought that this was fairly accurate for the most part. The only one that I really have any argument against is Nebraska. I'd argue that 311 is easily the most popular from NE.

Texas is a little bit of a head scratcher with ZZ Top chosen over the likes of Buddy Holly, Janis, Willie Nelson, George Strait...

Also not sure about putting Nirvana over Jimi.

I would put Lynyrd Skynyrd over Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers for Florida.

The Heartbreakers were borderline a solo act with a backing band.

Lynyrd Skynyrd was/is a real band. The Allman Brothers would have a case, too.

How are the Beach Boys not the one for California?

How is Chicago not the winner for Illinois?

In terms of chart success The Eagles are possibly the most popular American band let alone CA, but I know the Dead has popularity way beyond charts. The Beach Boys probably have a lot of chart success too. It’s a good nocal vs socal debate.

CA and Tennessee are kind of hard to think of the bands actually from there vs the almost majority of bands who end up in those two states for big periods of their careers.

I agree 311 is more popular and played more today than bright eyes but I’m pretty sure 311 and a lot of these bands ended up in LA/Nashville for large amount of time. Question is when do you draw cutoff? Axl Rose isn’t from CA but he got off a bus from Indiana and formed epic CA bands.

They're not, but regardless a quick Wikipedia search says they moved to Tennessee in high school and started recording their own albums a few years after that so I doubt they would be considered an Iowa band if they never even lived here while they were performing.

I really like bright eyes but yeah I don't really think of them as particularly famous

Are you saying you feel that the Everly Brothers are more famous than Slipknot?

Im of the age when Slipknot was popular and Everly Brothers seem more famous to me because I’m a rock history junkie.

If you’re a fan of rock history they are pretty clearly the more famous band. Right now Slipknot surely gets more streaming play. Someday Slipknot will probably be less known because they’ll never be thought of as a historic act.
