Football is too depressing. At least we have a fresh start going on in MBB. They may not be the best team to ever take the floor, but I'm excited about the upcoming season and our new coach. Also, I saw the demo of the ribbon and scoreboard at Hilton and I really think it will help bring back the Magic.

More basketball talk?? Ok here ya go:

Basketball, b-ball, hoops, round ball, passing the rock, handing out dimes, air ball, he's got hops, nothing but a flop, hack, slammin, bammin, cleaning the glass, in the paint, Brick!!!, from downtown, H.O.R.S.E., he got game, he got schooled,in the paint, he's money...

Handing out dimes...?

I'm excited for this season. Until I started at Iowa State, I never had even the slightest interest in sports, much less knowledge of them. I learned a lot about football very quickly last year, and now know enough to follow at least my own team. I just bought season tickets for men's basketball on Friday, and I'm excited to do the same thing this year with this sport. I don't know jack squat about basketball currently, and frankly I've never found it very entertaining. But I figure that's just because I don't know anything about it. After all, there are plenty of people who get just as fired up about B-ball as football, so I guess there's probably something cool going on down on the wood floor. I'm gonna learn me some basketball!

Season tickets, membership in Cyclone Alley, and I'll probably go to a couple of away games (most likely Iowa and Nebraska, maybe Kansas).

Nebraska has a new coach, and it looks like alot more fans. I remember going to Lincoln the last couple years and seeing ALOT of ISU Students there. Don't know if you will get as many students this year.

I think you pretty much covered it.

it looks like two 2008 recruits visited last weekend. Anybody know how that went?

Also, we have 2 more recruits visiting next weekend, one of them being P'Allen. Lets hope we can nab some of these guys.

I really want Stinnet. There aren't many players left out there that are highly rated and on ISU's list.

OK, seems everybody is waiting for something to happen. I thought this was interesting. The CR Gazette, even more inclined toward the Hawks than the DM Register, actually had more coverage of the first practice under McDermott than they did of the media day in Iowa City. Somebody besides ISU fans is excited about Cyclone Bball! A few comments from GMac: "This team will be competitive." "Everyone is working hard which is good."

I assume that GMac is more liked than Alford by the Eastern Iowa media. Good news for those of us in Eastern Iowa.

also..dipsy-doo dunkaroo, space-eater, rim shaker, and the most overused and nauseating term in basketball: tremendous upside...as in my car won't start but looks cool and has tremendous upside.

If they rank us 11th out of 12 in basketball , that is about where our football team sits. We do not have to worry about baseball though.

I think you nailed that one on the head. Hell, even the Press-Citizen (Iowa City's primary newspaper) talks a decent share about GMac. Truth be told, *nobody* likes Alford, especially students at Iowa. I'm serious- they hate him. Kinda funny, actually. I've met Alford a few times before; as an individual, he's an incredibly nice guy and really, REALLY smart. However, when he puts on the "coach hat" he turns into a unlikeable character. Never have figured out why...

Regardless, the more GMac coverage, the better!

Hmm, that reminds me- whatever happened to Bill Fennelly's claim that he was going to legally change his last name to McFennelly? Personally, I thought it would have been pretty funny, not to mention good marketing.

If you haven't read Rick Reilly's "Life of Reilly" in this week's Sports Illustrated,it is a "must" read.Gave K-State a full body slam!
