Mongolian Grill in Ames?

Genghis Grill > HuHot IMO

Not to mention that Genghis Grill has the endorsement of Genghis Khan. Word on the street is that Genghis was a big fan of the Teriyaki Chicken bowl back in the day. HuHot is only sponsored by Kelly Hu. I'll take a viscous, conquering emperor over a second rate actress any day of the week.

I've been saying it all along, they'd be foolish NOT to open up a HuHot in Ames. That place would make a killing with its proximity to a major university population.

I would agree with this statement even though I dont get why people love it, but yes would go over well with a university pop.

Now this is complete rubbish  did you know that Genghis Khan was a bad man

I understand the attraction, but personally I don't think it's anything special. My wife and I went through a period where we really liked HuHot, but the novelty wore off and we realized the food was no better than any other place. i don't hate it, but I won't go out of my way for it.

Genghis Grill > HuHot IMO

Genghis has big pieces of fresh meat where as HuHot has frozen pieces of thinly sliced meat that shrivel up when they cook them...

Agree 100% but I am still happy to have our HuHot. If they put one in Ankeny I might as well start buying larger pants.

You realize the guy's definition of Mongolian food was slapping a slab of meat in between the horse and saddle and riding on it all day long?
Those were the Tartars that did that, not the Mongolians. (Genghis Khan's Mongols did temporarily conquer and control the Tartars, but the Tartars only did the bidding of Khan; they were not ethnic Mongolians.) Hence the reason that particular food you're talking about is called steak tartare.

I've heard that Khan and his army did that as well.

how about a non chain mongolian grill? why do we have to have the same chains as every other town so that when you come to ames you can eat at the same places you could anywhere else.

This would be fine IF it was done well. I ate at an independent Mongolian-style grill in Dallas that turned out to be awful. They had limited choices for ingredients and overcooked the food. Very disappointing.
