Minecraft

The browser version is basically only "creative" mode, whereas the downloadable version randomly generates terrain with biomes such as desert, jungles, plains, tundra, etc.

I've yet to find a good server to play on -- seems like most of the ones I've run across are overdeveloped and not much fun to play on. My Minecraft experience has been mostly limited to single player, and a private server that my wife and I played on over LAN.

If you introduce kids to this game, watch out. You might never get the computer back!

My son found this game a couple weeks ago and is now obsessed with it. Right now he's playing the free, classic version and watching a lot of Youtube videos about the newer version. He's begging me to buy it for him. I'm tempted to buy it for him because I'd rather have him playing this than Black Ops or something similar. Is it worth $27?

Tried to buy this for my son today, visa denied the charge as fraud, now I have to call them to get my card unlocked. They also cannot accept paypal.

I wonder if it's because the company is Swedish? Seems odd though.

Why can't they accept Paypal?

No idea, I tried paypal once visa denied it, and paypal came back and said they could not process either. It is not like I am trying to buy a pr0n subscription or something.

Just odd, I put it on my Visa when I bought the game with no issues. Then again, that was early 2011(Feb?).

I got a text from my credit card company (Chase) asking if the charge was valid. After verifying, the charge went through with no problems.

i made this on the server i play on, its the first thing you see when you log on the server

Cool. I'm a little confused about the server thing. My son is mostly playing "single player mode" right now mostly because we don't get the whole server thing. I assume you have to find and connect to a server to play multiplayer. Where do you find servers and are they free?

You can set up your own server. After I moved to Ohio I bought an old dell that I leave on almost 24/7 and used it all winter as a dedicated Minecraft server. Had about 8 people playing in the same world at one time. Multi-player definitely changes the experience.

PM if you want to know more about servers. If your son has a lot of friends playing it could be worth looking into it.

a buddy of mine is a super nerd and sets it all up, we started a group called Krafters which has like 20 or so members right now, our server is hosted by a professional company but anyone can host a server from their own computer, although i have set up servers on my computer i never had the knowledge to keep it going, there are tons of videos on youtube that show you how to set one up

There should be a Server app you can download from the Minecraft website. You can have a dedicated computer set up as the server, or you can just have it run in the background of your own computer. (Server IP would then just be 198.162.1.1xx depending on what the local IP of your host computer is.)

My wife and I did this for awhile, she quit playing after a few days though complaining that the first person view gave her motion sickness.

Are most of you building structures and what not? I usually just set up shop and explore caves. I haven't spent much time building elaborate buildings or mine tracks.

CF server could be a lot of fun. I'd be MORE interested after bowls end. I tend to play WAY more video games when the snow is out.

If you're interested I just started and I have it running. I think the IP is 50.83.241.126 but pm me if you are having any issues getting on

That's a LAN IP address. It won't be reachable by anyone outside of your LAN.
