My wife and I are trying to decide where to go on vacation this year, one of the places we are considering is the upper peninsula. We were wondering if anybody had some thoughts on what they think of the area, whether it is worth the trip or not, and some of the sites to see if we go?

I had a boss that would go camping up there and really loved it. He came back with a ton a pictures and it looks very scenic.

I live in Michigan, the UP is nice. Mackinaw bridge is amazing, but it gets COLD at night. Northern lower penninsula, stay along I-75. In the fall the colors are so amazing, youd never believe it.

It is a good area to visit. We vacationed there a few years ago and it was one of our most peaceful vacations we have ever had.

We went to Mackinaw Island City from Des Moines. We went up via the upper Peninsula, stayed up in Mackinaw City.

Spent a couple days on the upper Pen. There is a neat waterfall, lighthouses (there is a county park one you can go to the top of free), Lake Superior, going into Canada (with a passport) and many more.

I would suggest basing out of Mackinaw City. Then you can do the Island, see things in town, as well as use this as a base area for some day trips into either the upper Peninsula, down the Lake Michigan, or Huron Coast.

One thing we did was I rented a jet ski and went out on Lake Huron iwth each of the kids. It was a fun afternoon.

My wife loved sitting on the beach in front of the condo we rented, looking out at the bridge, island, and lake. Again, it was probably one of our most peacefull vacations.

i go up there all of the time. it is a great place to get away from the world and relax. if you are into the out doors, go to Isle Royal.....its an island in the middle of lake superior you can get there from Duluth, Houghton, Copper Harbor. Other than that I would just rent a house for a week or so and enjoy the view.
