Michigan State vs. Iowa

Looks like either Ohio State or Iowa to Rose. Will be interesting to see how that goes. Take the brand name Ohio State for TV ratings and hype? Or take Iowa, who will probably bring a boat load of fans since it's been awhile since they've been there.

Or, maybe they will strictly go by the rankings. Does Ohio State jump Iowa in the rankings?

Both have a 3 point loss to Michigan State as their only loss. So could go either way.

The Rose Bowl has said there is a "strong presumption" they will take the higher ranked team. I think that is likely.

It will be interesting to see who comes out ahead. I think it'll look like this:

1. Clemson
2. Alabama
3. Michigan State
4. Oklahoma
5. Stanford
6. Iowa OR Ohio State
7. Iowa OR Ohio State

It's anyone's guess who wins that battle. I'll take Ohio State to sneak in ahead of Iowa. I don't know how the rest of the bowls pick, but it sounds like the Fiesta or the Peach would be Iowa's potential non-Rose landing spots, and it sounds like Notre Dame will be in the Fiesta and Houston in the Peach.

I know, unlike all of you fine people, I am a weird weirdo who is weird. But I do not understand this whole wanting the rival to fail in all things all the time. I want the hawks to win every single game EXCEPT when they play the Cyclones. The better the hawks do, the better the Cyclones look for playing them. I don't know. I just don't want a lame-o loser rival, I want a rival that is a formidable nemesis.

Why? Iowa fans generally don't cheer for Iowa State, no matter what they will tell you in the lead up to a big game for them when they're begging for ISU's support. Further, Iowa fans don't fail to remind us about UAB earlier this year, Hampton, or MSU in 2000.

**** Iowa.

OSU has been overranked all year, it's insane they are ranked as high as they are. They have played a weaker schedule than Iowa now and have one impressive win over an extremely overrated Michigan team. But they do probably have the most NFL talent of any team.

I would think it's more about which fanbase would travel better and spend more money in Pasadena. It's a New Year's Day bowl game. Won't the TV ratings be pretty much the same no matter which teams are involved?

If I am not mistaken, the highest ranked B1G team NOT going to the playoff goes to the Rose Bowl. I am guessing OSU jumps Iowa to #5 and goes instead of them. That means Fiesta or Peach for Iowa, personally I think an Iowa/ND Fiesta bowl would be interesting.

The chairman of the Rose Committee referenced "extraordinary circumstances" that could affect who they select. At any rate, they aren't obligated to pick the highest ranked team that didn'make the playoff.

if a two-loss Stanford is ahead of Iowa then the system is broken beyond belief. The Hawkeyes absolulty rolled a team on the road that beat them

The committee has already said Stanford losing that game doesn't count because they had to change time zones to play that game.
