Michigan State MBB Mess...

Basically a mix of everything. The mod locked the thread last night around 8:30. Too much speculation. Lots of people saying if a girl willing took her clothes off it isn't rape. Lots saying it is old news. Lots saying that there wasn't enough evidence. No one is really worried.
Wasn't trolling just did a quick search and tried to get the jist of a 25 page thread.

I find it funny the Michigan Messenger broke this. If it was Michigan, the Detroit Free Press would have been all of it. They have done it to them over much much smaller things.

On the case: This is ********. I'm not syaing they are guilty but when one of the alledged tells the same story there should probably be a little further investigation.

I will lose serious respect for Izzo if these players aren't dismissed, or at least the one actually committed the rape. The other will be kicked off through association though, even though he stopped when she said to, he did not stop the other from continuing the assault. I have serious, serious problems with rape. There is something seriously wrong with anyone who commits it.

I hold Izzo to higher standards than the Alford's and Ferentz's of the world, and if he let these guys play, he is no better than Steve Alford.

If some one rapes a lady I am all for kicking them off the team, out of school and sending them directly to jail but what do we do to uphold that little thing about innocent until proven guilty? I suppose they could sit out until the case gets adjudicated. Plenty of guys have been accused of rape, even sent to jail for many years and later shown to be innocent.

This hasn't been picked up by either of the major papers in Michigan, that says something about it.

Here's an article from MLive.com, a pretty reliable organization.

Two Michigan State basketball players accused of sexual assault; no charges filed | MLive.com

Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III confirmed his office decided not to bring charges after what he called a thorough review of the incident, which occurred late Aug. 29 and early Aug. 30 at Wonders Hall.

The players are not identified because there are no charges.

Dunnings said the police report and other documents were reviewed by at least two assistant prosecutors, including Debra Rousseau Bouck, who evaluates all criminal sexual conduct cases for Ingham County.

The accuser was offered the opportunity to meet again with prosecutors for reconsideration but declined, Dunnings said.

"I asked what was decided, why it was decided and what the victim thinks about it," Dunnings said. "That's what I always do. Miss Bouck indicated there would be no charges, and the victim didn't have a problem with it.

"There is a reconsideration policy in our office. If a victim is not happy, they can come talk to me and I'll review everything personally."

Congratulations. I think most of us do..

The one question I would like answered is whether the prosecutor's response would have changed if these weren't MSU basketball players?

Whether true or not, the prosecutor's response creates the perception that they are protecting the accused.

I don't see how this hurts MSU at all. It seems as though they did everything they were supposed to in this case. If the story is on the up and up, it is the prosecutors that need to be looked at.

Or the perception that the accusers story isn't the same to everyone that she's talked to.

It was not his first time....

Really, that's funny, because I don't remember anyone going to the police before this. The other accuser went directly to a lawyer to file a civil(money) suit, never even filed a complaint with the police dept.

It's the same story as one of the accused. That seems important.

The prosecutor probably needs a more thorough explanation (as much as possible) to avoid the implications of favoritism, because that perception is something that has to be dealt with (right or wrong).

All I'm saying is if she wants to press charges, she can. This isn't something where she has once chance to say yes or no to filing charges. Yet, she hasn't.

I am REALLY sick and tired of people insinuating that Ferentz condones or is in any way OK with rape. If you want to make accusations like that, provide some sort of proof that there was a cover-up or any wrong doing by Kirk Ferentz. This is NO better than the poster who insinuated an innocent ISU basketball player.

It annoys the **** out of me that people keep bringing Ferentz's name into the whole situation, when a committee (hired by the board of regents), the police, and the judicial system have cleared him and his staff of any wrong doing in the case. Somehow, you think you know better than him, but your hatred for anything and everything Iowa Hawkeyes makes you look like a fool in this case.

Rape is a serious thing. We all agree with that. This is not the time, place, or subject matter to drag a person's good name through the mud simply because you hate the team he coaches. This is also not the thread to be bringing this subject up. A girl at MSU was allegedly raped, and it's a horrible subject matter.

I agree. Ferentz does not condone rape. He does condone letting his kid stay in subsidized housing for the poor. There, that was easy. Happy?

You do realize that Brian Ferentz had to apply and be accepted into HUD housing, right? Or do you think KF just told him to go ahead and get an apartment there, and pulled strings to make sure he was able to?

I'm sure you're also aware that scholarship athletes around the country have unfortunately been taking advantage of the system for years, and not just at Iowa. In fact, it has happened at Florida, Virginia Tech, Nebraska, etc... I'm sure no ISU athlete has EVER lived in low-income housing.
