The howks just ducked two matches in the finals of the Big10s. The big10 can’t be happy about this. 8 of the 10 matches took place but their biggest star didn’t get to wrestle. Is the NCAA their own worst enemy on this? Currently there are no repercussions for MFFs leading into nationals. 4 of Iowas 10 guys forfeited out of the tournament. Is it time the seeding committee takes a stand? Do they have power to make it happen without first having structured rules around it? What a terrible black eye for the sport. Funny thing is, the guy heading this is the tough guy always pointing and yelling and flexing. Desperation at its finest, trying anything possible to beat penn state at nationals.

There will probably have to be a rule change first, classifying a MFF as a loss.

Right now, the "losing" wrestler gets to treat it as "no match" in the W-L column, even though the "winning" wrestler gets to count it as a W in the official record.

It's obviously in the spotlight at conference tournaments where the most is at stake, but a blanket rule change would also affect those early-season opens, where some guys show up with the intent of only wrestling 2-3 matches no matter what (and then MFF-ing out). That's where the hang-up will be.

It’s embarrassing. Some of their fans agree that it’s bad, but the majority think its no big deal. Really disgusting because the squawks have been very hard on other teams for doing the same thing.

I have a really reactionary stance when it come to injuries, as I have a family member who had one of the most horrific wrestling injuries ever. And I’ve seen too many wrestlers abuse injury time in a match, then come back guns blasting after their breather

Which makes tournaments lose their flavor as well. This is why the sport is hard to follow from people on the outside looking in. Guys can show up to tournaments, wrestle a couple matches then call it quits right as it gets tough. I personally am in favor of a rule change. Wrestle or don’t wrestle, but stop gaming the system.

I wouldn’t hate it if there was a rule where if you MFF, you are automatically a lower seed than who you MFF’d to in the tournament. Wouldn’t solve the championship MFF we saw in the Big’s, but would help with some of the semi-slide MFF we saw

I wonder if you could tailor a rule for conference tournaments or NCAA championship qualifying events. Really a shame when trying to grow the sport and have people tuning in to see Steveson and instead get the 3rd place match.

I thought of this too and completely agree. Tnt should not ever publicly b*tch about growing the sport when they pull bs like that.

I think it would be good for conference tournaments going to nationals. If you aren't hurt, then wrestle and you probably won't take a seed hit. Even if you are hurt, then you are probably dinged up going into nationals so you probably are a seed lower than the guy who was able to finish his tourney. Would at least be a little punishment for gaming the rules late.

There are wrestlers over the years that will draw fans, Cael was one, David Taylor, Nickels, and Stevenson is one. Having him stand there looking at the other corner empty or Brands cowering in fear of tough wrestling is bad for growing the sport.

I was just sent a video from a guy I know who happened to be in Brands' room when he was checking over the championship brackets before the session.
