merle haggard

'Old man from the Mountain' is a classic. Not one of his biggest hits but look it up and give it a listen...if you're toe don't tap and you don't feel like going out to raise a little hell you ain't alive.

Merle Haggard was the first concert I remember going to. It was probably in 1979-1980 at Vets. I went with my mom . Ricky Skaggs opened up, then Hank Jr., then finished with Merle. One thing I remember is that the concert was sponsored by Marlboro - they gave away packs at the door if you wanted them. Smokiest place I've ever been at. It was hard to see the stage through the haze.

Let's see... Classic Country the best made.

Merle, Waylon, Johnny, Willie. All the old outlaws.

Merle Songs

Okie from Muskogee
Mamma Tried
Fighting Side of Me
Pancho and Lefty... Best song ever with Willie Nelson
If We Make it Through December

I first got turned on to Merle by...The Grateful Dead...some of you may know that they did Mama Tried (first version I heard) anyway these are my favorites too, minus pancho and lefty.

I also really dig Sing Me Back Home and Workingman's Blues and Branded Man but really how can you go wrong with classic Merle? If We Make It Through December is one of my all time favorite songs period.

Bellz, I bow to your list.

PS Buck Owens and Hank are included on my list of greats along with old outlaws.
