Going to be on my yearly small town camping swing next weekend around central IA next weekend and looking for a good locker to get some jerky and brats at. I know of some really good ones in the NE part of the state- Edgewood Locker, Orly's, Polasheks to name a few, but are there any of these gems in the middle part of the state? Probably won't get as far north as CF or I would load up at Steege's meat market in Benson.
I'm a big fan of unique flavored brats so if anyone has any input I would love it.

I probably won't get south of DSM but will be going right by state center. They have a specialty there? I have a buddy that I got some jalapeno cheese deer brats from last spring and would like to find some of those too.

Malcolm is excellent. Ham and cheese sticks tasty. They do a great job on deer. Tell them you are thinking of bringing a deer next year, will likely give you enough samples for a weekend.

I've always heard good things about the locker in Stanhope, but their selection was minimal every time I've gone in, so I've never tried any of it. You might have to call them in advance for beef sticks, etc?

The Story City Locker has some really good and unique stuff. We got some sriracha bacon a couple weeks ago. That stuff was amazing! Not sure how their brats are though. May want to check out their website/facebook page.

Depends how far west/central you are, Kitts locker in Dedham has the best ring bologna I've ever had. Arcadia Meats has good jerky, or Yetter Locker has amazing everything. I believe Yetter Lockers slogan is "You can beat our prices, but you can't beat our meat".

Of course there's always the ISU Meat Lab store in Kildee Hall on campus. Really good at good prices, but no flavored brats, sorry. It's open Wed. and Fri., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and while they don't have everything all the time, if you want something specific or in quantity, you can always request it. http://www.ans.iastate.edu/section/meat/?pg=sales

I've had a lot of Kitts over the years, good, but its a really smokey ring bologna, so you have to like that.
Arcadia has excellent ring bologna as well. Just a hint of sweetness in it.

I'm from the city so I'm ignorant on the topic, is a meat locker where you take animals you kill to be butchered? Or do they sell just meat in general like a butcher.
