McKay Starting Over BDJ

It's all about this team. We aren't Syracuse and staying at home in March. We're in 2nd in the conference and in position to have a good seed in the Big Dance. You don't even start thinking about preparation for next year. Fred thinks this move will help the team have more success this year.

If I had a choice that was very even I would use eligibility. I guess I'm the only one who would use that to break a close decision.

Like someone else suggested there's a good chance BDJ could be in trouble. The reason I think that is Naz has already shown he can light it up off the bench, BDJ coming off the bench is a total crap shoot...but that may be why Fred is trying it this game when there's very little chance of us not winning in a revenge game at home against an under matched team.

Finally, should have had this lineup since mckat was eligible. BDJ has messed up the chemistry of this team imo. He is not a hoiballer. Hopefully he embraces this new role like a naz or mcgee and thrives. But I'll have to see it to believe it.

Hopefully BDJ reacts well and works to continue to play starter minutes.
Love the break he just lead to get Hogue a lay in.

He's 14th in the entire Big 12 in assists, 3rd on the team. He's shooting 51% FG, 6th in the Big 12.

I don't get some of you.

If you don't understand basketball well enough to understand, it's not going to help for me to explain. He is great at basketball, but he fits in better w an offense ran more like say......... Unlv.

Also, I knew you would cry yourself to sleep tonight upon hearing this news

So far, BDJ seems to have handled it very well. He's playing some good basketball so far. A couple of great passes, and the kick out to Naz is one I could see him forcing up instead of kicking out in previous games. Defense and rebounding has been solid as well.

Let me know how his play is selfish when he's great at making the shots he takes, better than any of our other guards and wings, and is third on the team in assists?

I just want what is best for ISU. Some posters have labeled BDJ a ball hog from day one when all rational evidence points to the opposite. He takes good shots and he passes willingly. Like Kane, he often has poor body language which I suspect is the reason for this massive leap of irrationality.

I never called him a ball hog?

For the record I've been excited for McKay to start for a while...he can outrun and outreach any other big man in the Big 12. I think we win it all last year if we have somebody with McKay's skill set...I think we beat Maryland even with an average performance if we have McKay to fill that void against them.

I just have grown disgusted of the 'hero ball' posts to the point where if I said what I think they really mean by it my posts would be moved to the cave or deleted by a mod.

I think I can assure you we don't prefer mckay over bdj because of his political views or religious beliefs.

Not who I would have replaced, but interested to see what Fred has up his sleeve

There's certainly a lot of reasons to try to get McKay on the court more, but predictably a few of us have to turn it into a chance to bash one of the two players designated to bash.

If you go back to preseason threads, some people who actually watched McKay at IHCC said he was a perimeter big guy and one guy who watched him a lot was actually calling him a "3". He's much closer to exactly what we need in a player who dominates around the rim on both ends than he is to a "3".

If he qualified he'd be #1 in the Big 12 in FG% and #2 in blocks. Would be up there nationally in both as well.

This move is entirely about overcoming our slow starts. We need McKay's length on the floor at the beginning of games. I doubt the minute distribution changes a whole lot overall.

McKay and Hogue are the two guys we can count on to play really hard and aggressive. They make mistakes but they always have the motor going.

I'm not a strategic expert or anything but doesn't McKay allow us to guard outside shots a lot tighter because it's not as big a deal if a player takes us off the dribble?
