MBB Schedule Released

If we win the Michigan game, then awesome. We should have high hopes for this season.

But under Fred Hoiberg, our best teams haven't gelled until the start of conference play. Why should we expect anything less this season with so many new faces?

edit: not sure how much games against Augustana, UNC-Wilmington, and Texas A&M Corpus-Christi

Your totally right. Last year vs Cinci and a few others i cant think of were a mess. But this year I feel like Thomas and hopefully Morris are going to step in and be a studs right away. Ejim has played with the Canadian team. Niang and CO the CCL. It just seems different this year. Don't get me wrong I think well peak next year, but were going to be good.

That's probably the reason there's hesitation from some fans about having U-M game so early. Fred's teams have included a lot of new contributors each season to this point, and it hasn't gotten well-oiled until January.

It seems different this year because our backcourt will likely be completely new players, rather than guys who have spent 1-3 years within the program?

If Michigan loses, $1,000 their fans use the same excuse.

This is different than be other teams... We actually have some experience returning. Last year we were starting Gibson and didn't know our identity... This year we know who our front court is and our back court will show production no matter who we throw out there.

Fred knows this team very well, has depth, and options. There will be some tinkering... But it's not like other years where you don't have a PG, or there's no depth, or there's no identity, or guys haven't played in well over a year...

We start off a lot hotter last year if Niangs the 5 from the start and we have Bubu for depth... I don't see problems like that this year.

But there may be new problems. Thomas, SDW, Morris, Hogue and Edozie will need to get comfortable against D1 competition. Also it might take everyone as a team to adjust and learn how to play with each other. Only Ejim, Niang, Bubu, Long and Gibson have played together.

Agree 100%.

I think the other thing this does is that it FORCES the team to be ready much earlier in the season. Not saying that this happened, but it certainly seemed that they kinda circled that conference opener at Kansas as the 'real' season beginning and sleep-walked through non-con. Having UM (and Iowa) on the schedule in the span of a month and really, in the first 8 games of the season, should have a jump-start effect on this team.

I really like the effort the team has been putting forth in training and prep this offseason - seems like every day you see a tweet from one of them about working out at a skills camp or spending the whole day in the gym. I know, other top-tier schools do this too, but it's very encouraging.

That'd be at least 6 non-conference games on national TV. 5 ESPNU and 1 on ESPN2. Diamond head championship could be national TV too.

Bet that's never happened before we've had that many quality non-conf games.

I'm quite sure it hasn't happened to that extent in non-conference. Some of the best ISU teams might have gotten that type of exposure, but those were pre-ESPNU days.

Get a season equal-or-better than 2012-3 and we may see more on ESPN itself, or some on Deuce instead of U.
