MBB Recruiting Notebook: 10-6 Update

So, where does Otzelberger fit into all this? He's a great recruiter, but we haven't had the players to put together a winning team with his (and McD's) recruiting.

Has he switched the type of player he is recruiting since Hoiberg got here?

Are the better players he is recruiting more likeley to come to ISU now?

Are the players he recruits going to stay, and that's good enough to improve us?

What's the story?

We'll find out one way or another.

I can confirm Odunsi is on campus. He was on my flight last night from Houston to DSM. TJ was waiting at the bottom of the stairs for him when we got off.

I did not say anything to him because I was not sure if he was a recruit or a commit.

He's unsigned either way.

My serious take on this situation is that the coaching needed an upgrade more than the recruiting. Great coaches can do a lot with less talent-but bad or even mediocre coaches won't get as far with better talent. The whole coaching ability question won't really be answered til this year or even next, but I do thing we were mired in mediocrity overall and failure in the B12. And I don't hate McD like some people but in my opinion he largely failed here as a coach so a change was needed.

Players walking away at the drop of a hat is the new dynamic in college BB. It's when they all start leaving (or thinking about it) that things go south.
Previous regime was a failure on all levels.
