Matt and Miller getting pretty heated

Good lord, Iowa spanked us on Saturday. I'm tired of the if we did this or if we didn't do that...it doesn't matter. We played a terrible game, Iowa took advantage of our mistakes, and that's what good teams do.

Is Iowa a top 25 team? In my opinion no. They need a running game and they don't have one (a point that Matt's trying to make). I'm not into discounting the legitimacy of stats, but I think it was pretty obvious to anyone watching that game that Iowa struggled running the ball and lacked confidence running the ball. How many plays did it take them to even attempt a run? I'm sure they didn't run the ball once on their first possession. We all know how much emphasis Ferentz puts on scoring in the opening drive of a game, and that's why Iowa takes the ball 99% of the time to start the game. Not attempting a single run on your first possession, on the road, in a rivalry game...that told me all I needed to know about how confident the Iowa coaching staff was with the running game. Will Iowa get better at running the ball as the season goes on? I'm sure they will, but they will have to. Stanzi will not win games against good competition solely on his arm.

IF Arnaud doesn't throw those picks (none of which were forced), this is a tight game...

1) What is a forced pick?

2) It goes both ways. If Stanzi plays well, we could have won by 50. We were another minute from winning by 40 as it was.

Oh, so you think that iowa's DL just sat there? In season's past, all iowa needed was the 4 DLs to get a pass rush. That didn't happen. I watched Osemele dominate Clayborn all day. Oh, and thanks for the hint *******.

I don't know why the squawks win and we're all supposed to bow down to their superior FB prowess. They looked like crap, played against a QB who was locking on to his WRs and made him pay for it. Then in the 2nd half piled up the yards against a tired D. Sorry, but that was a gift, not an impressive win. Be happy with your win and move the f on.

Hyperbole Alert! Hyperbole Alert!

I agree completely, but at the same time the core of that point is right. Osemele did win the match-up. Against the run I remember it being pretty even, but Osemele definitely shut down the pass rush with only a couple exceptions. He actually did a much better job against Clayborn than Austin Howard did, whom UNI fans are fond of hyping as a first-day draft pick.

It's possible that part of it had to do with Clayborn being told to stay at home in case Arnaud ran on some % of the plays -- I don't know. Osemele still played well.
