You're rankings look pretty close to what mine would be

Cool. I'm glad I actually did a tier breakdown this time as that really lays it out best in my opinion. All said and done, I think there is a lot of room for debate on similar films/shows within each tier, especially within that first tier. I mean, you can't really go too wrong with which one you favor over the other within that top tier. However, what I think is less debatable is the tiers. To me, that first tier is clearly defined, with the second tier somewhat the same way too, only maybe a bit more foggy on where exactly to place that bottom line.

Get ready for more MCU films each year. There are going to be 4 MCU films released within one year of each other, starting with Doctor Strange:

Doctor Strange - Nov 4, 2016 release
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 - May 5, 2017
Spider-Man: Homecoming - July 7, 2017
Thor: Ragnarok - Nov 3, 2017

That is intense and when you look at Phases 1 & 2, the most MCU movies released in a calendar year had been 2. 2018 also has 3 MCU films slated for release (Black Panther, Avenger's: Infinity War, and Ant-Man & the Wasp), and 2019 has 2 announced (Captain Marvel and another Avenger's movie) but I have a feeling they could add 1 or possibly even 2 more that year.

That got me thinking - do you think Superhero fatigue is finally going to set in with so many films coming out over the next few years? Also, what movies do you think will be eventually announced and which characters do you think are done?

I think that Disney-Marvel may see a slight dip at the box office with 3-4 MCU releases a year that may point to signs of fatigue, they will continue to make that many movies a year but they will also have profits from Star Wars so it may not hurt them financially to invest in multiple films a year.

I think they are done making stand-alone films for Tony Stark/Iron Man, Steve Rodgers/Captain America and Thor will be done after Ragnarok. They will appear in the Avenger films but I'm guessing one of them won't make it out of the Infinity War (sorry Steve).

So now here come my guesses for the Phase 4 films that will be announced:

Spider-Man 2 (2019 release)

Doctor Strange 2 (2019 release)

GotG 3 (2020 release and the conclusion of that trilogy)

Now here are some fun guesses for what could come next:

The Mighty Avenger's (2020 - led by Black Widow and a team lineup of Spider-Man, Wasp,
Scarlet Witch, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, and.... SHE HULK).

Black Panther 2 (2020) - this is the film where 20th Century Fox gets the X-Men into the MCU by introducing Storm. This deal kills the Inhumans movie.

What do you guys think?

If it means anything, here is the rumored Phase 4 slate that has been out there, but could be completely wrong:

May 1, 2020 - Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3
Jul 10, 2020 - Spider-Man: Coming Of Age
Nov 6, 2020 - Doctor Strange 2
Mar 5, 2021 - Black Widow
May 7, 2021 - Inhumans
Jul 9, 2021 - Black Panther 2
Nov 5, 2021 - Antman 3
Feb 4, 2022 - The Winter Soldier
May 6, 2022 - The New Avengers
Jul 8, 2022 - Nova
Nov 4, 2022 - Captain Marvel 2
Mar 3, 2023 - Sentry/Spider-Woman
May 5, 2023 - Inhumans 2
Jul 7, 2023- Spider-Man: Greatness Awaits
Nov 3, 2023 - Doctor Strange 3 Read more at: https://tr.im/1iv5k

True or not, I'm not sure I'd be too far off from these on my guesses. At the same time, I still think the possibility of shimmying in one more Iron Man swan song is a possibility, but kind of a low one. I also truly think that Fox and Marvel are discussing the X-Men's future as well as the Fantastic 4's. Do I think they've come to a deal?? No, but I do believe they are at least exploring that as a possibility. Nevertheless, if that does come true, this whole thing could get turned on end. As for the Inhumans, I'm of the opinion that they still plan on doing them eventually, but the only reason why they keep getting delayed out is due to the possibility of getting an X-Men deal done in the meantime. To me, they see things as EITHER as shooting to the moon with the X-Men or using the InHumans as a fallback plan. Ultimately, they are just too similar to have both.

On another note, with everything Spider-Man, people need to realize that the original Sony-Marvel deal was ONLY set up for him to appear in Civil War, followed by Marvel producing a solo Spider-Man flick (Homecoming) for Sony. Therefore, after Homecoming, based on what is known publicly, there technically isn't any further rules for Sony to follow with Spider-Man. What we do know is that Tom Holland said they are currently in negotiations between the two studios about a Spider-Man sequel already, but we also know that Sony has ambitious plans for other Spider-Man spinoff films like a Venom film. As to whether these films even contain Spider-Man or not, or whether they are even in the MCU, nobody knows. It really is all pretty weird. With that said, I still think that a lot of deals are still to be struck between the two studios simply because it would be stupid for either not to. Nevertheless, don't be surprised also to see Sony go more ambitious with their number of Spider-Man and Spider-Man offshoot flicks.

Does anyone else get annoyed by the fact that Marvel now likes to put the U.S. on one of the last release dates for all of their movies????

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1211837/releaseinfo

I'm pretty sure they do it because they have confidence in their movies and they want the good word of mouth to build BEFORE they release it in the U.S.. I get it. Still, it is pretty annoying as a U.S. film goer. It also makes things brutal to read anything and avoid spoiling the film.

Is it me or is this AOS season kinda bad? I like the ghost rider character, but the rest of the show has been very uneventful so far.

I dont know if its bad, I just hope they are building to something big and not just fizzle out. They are using it as a vehicle for Strange, which is fine, but the bad guys are underwhelming so far.

I do get a bit giggly when Ghost Rider starts to flame up. I almost want him to hate everyone at every moment. This weeks, I was worried he wouldnt do it, since he got talked down, but when he did I was pumped.

Again we, the United States, are going to be one of the LAST countries to be able to see Doctor Strange, which means that a lot of reviews for the movie are already out, making for a pretty favorable Rotten Tomatoes score so far. Most people like to just look at its Tomatometer score of 92% liked and think wow, this must be right up there with the best of them. What I want people to know is that I kind of hate that score as all it tells people is how many people looked at the film as favorable versus unfavorable. What I like much more is their actual average ratings score that actually rates the film on a 10 point scale. With that said, here is how Dr. Strange is looking right now on a ranking of that more accurate scale.

1. Marvel's The Avengers: 8.0/10 (92% liked)
2. Guardians of the Galaxy: 7.8/10 (91% liked)
3. Iron Man: 7.7/10 (94% liked)
4. Captain America: Civil War: 7.6 (90% liked)
5. Captain America: The Winter Soldier: 7.5/10 (89% liked)
6. Doctor Strange: 7.3/10 (92% liked)
7. Iron Man 3: 7.0/10 (79% liked)
8. Captain America: The First Avenger: 6.9/10 (80% liked)
9. Ant-Man: 6.8/10 (80% liked)
10. Thor: 6.7/10 (77% liked)
11. Avengers: Age of Ultron: 6.7/10 (75% liked)
12. Iron Man 2: 6.5/10 (72% liked)
13. Thor: The Dark World: 6.2/10 (67% liked)
14. The Incredible Hulk: 6.2/10 (67% liked)
Therefore, as you can see from a Tomatometer score, Doctor Strange appears to be right there in the top tier of MCU movies. However, if one looks deeper at the actual score of the movie, this movie looks a lot more like an upper mid-tier movie. Keep in mind that score will still change as less than half the reviews are in so far. Also, after reading many reviews already, most people say it is more of a mid-tier Marvel movie than an upper tier one. Anyway, take that for what it is worth and make your own judgment when you see it.

This is a great item to point out. The "Tomatometer" is just the number of critics that said "this is a movie worth seeing in the theaters" rather than how good/bad the movie actually is. I take that 92% favorable rating to be a great sign as Doctor Strange has a lot working against it: new characters, new mythos, new powers, and being the 14th film in the MCU (which could have led to fatigue from quality of production as well as fatigue from reviewers of sitting through yet another comicbook movie). This movie appears to overcome those odds and sit pretty favorably in the upper-half of the MCU library.

That's about as high as I would think it could get. If it cracked that top 5 I would have been surprised as those are some really great movies. I am sure if this movie came out a few years ago it would probably be getting more love from critics, but now that we have so many superhero movies I think some critics are really nit picking them. I for one am super excited. I really like Benedict Cumberbatch and this seems like the perfect role for him.

I agree that this is about as favorable as we could expect from this movie due to the fact that Marvel ultimately stuck to its formulaic origin story in order to introduce this character, and anymore, I think it is near impossible to reach that upper-crest with that same formula. Ultimately, there is just too much fatigue out there right now for those types of stories again. In fact, that is the biggest thing that the critics are saying is a negative about the film so far. However, this is NOT a knock from me by saying that. I get why they went with that formula for this particular character, and I'm still okay with getting some of these every now and again. I just don't want to see origin stories for EVERY single character and Kevin Feige knows. that, which is why the introduction of Black Panther and Spider-Man in Civil War was so genius.

For all you nerds out there like me, don't forget to do a quick read on the Doctor Strange movie prelude comics prior to catching the movie this week. Should be a good primer to get you in the mood and set things up a little better. I plan on reading it the day before.

Anyone got plans for going to the opening showing of Doctor Strange tomorrow night??? Personally, I'm usually all over those as I love going to them. Full disclosure: I even slightly dress up. However, with the ISU game at the same time, I'm opting to watch the game instead and catch a Dr. Strange matinee on Sunday. That isn't to say I won't eventually or even rather quickly regret that decision. In fact, I'd say it is much more likely I regret it than not. You guys of all people know what I mean and I'm sure can sympathize ;-)

I am the same. Going to go this weekend and somehow try and make it through our beatdown on Thursday.

Doctor Strange snap judgement. I loved it. I would put it in the upper quarter of MCU movies. But I really know the character. I could see people not familiar with him not enjoying it as much. I've got a couple of gripes about the movie but they are nitpicky.

Not MCU related, but is Marvel related. If you haven't seen, Disney is going to be producing a Big Hero 6 Disney XD TV show as a follow-up to the movie, and they've got most of the original voice actors to come back. I don't know about you guys, but I absolutely loved the Big Hero 6 movie and thought it had some of the best heart of any Disney movie I've seen in a while. Therefore, I might be checking this out to see how it turns out. Right now, I'm not completely sold on it beings how Disney has been pretty hit or miss with their animated products, particularly anything superhero related. One of the biggest downfalls already for it is the fact that while they have MOST the voice actors coming back, they are missing Daman Wayons as Wasabi and T.J. Miller as Fed coming back, which shouldn't be super surprising. Both those guys have blown up pretty big recently and are probably busy with other projects. Nevertheless, T.J. Miller as Fred in particular was one of the best characters in that movie period. Wasabi will be easier to replace.

I loved Big Hero 6. It nearly supplanted The Incredibles as my favorite Disney animated film. (I could have a long conversation about "Disney/Pixar" but long story short, I feel that when Disney acquired Pixar, they shifted their best movies to be under the Disney label, and Pixar hasn't impressed me since with any of their movies.)

I wish they were doing a feature film follow-up instead of a Disney XD series however. I feel they are doing Big Hero 6 a huge disservice by relegating it to the small screen. I am definitely conflicted about this news.
