Now that it crushed the opening weekend, it will be interesting to see how much legs this thing has. That is ultimately where the biggest box office takers really made their money. From a competition standpoint, Infinity War should also dominate next weekend, as well as the weekend thereafter. However, past that, it will immediately get very much more difficult as you not only bump right into Deadpool 2 on May 18th, but then Disney will also start the cannibalize itself on May 24th with the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story. Both of those will compete directly for the same viewers for the most part. This is ultimately the pitfall of having a summer release. We'll see though. There is no doubt there will still be a lot of repeat viewings of this thing as it is those repeaters that really take things to the big heights.

It'll have some legs, nothing great though.

That's seems a little ridiculous to say when box office will begin with a B.

Kevin Feige talks about recently already having talks for MCU movies in both 2014 and 2015. Just remember Disney doesn't plan on relenting with this train. Can't wait to see how they integrate both Fantastic 4 and the X-Men in. I do think it won't be for a while though, but I anticipate them bringing in the Fantastic 4 prior to the X-Men.

New Ant-Man and the Wasp trailer coming tomorrow

Just heard "Infinity War" doesn't open in China till May 11.

Another tanker full of cash in the world's fastest expanding movie market.

Disney spent $321 million on Infinity War. That figure does not include advertising/marketing. What’s shocking is that Avengers: Age of Ultron cost $495 million to make.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/csylt/...-infinity-wars-financial-muscle/#dcc7e224e486

The movie has already made $258 million in the US opening weekend and $630 million internationally.

The economics of these things relative to the industry is getting a little scary. Talk about a single point of failure for the few major players left in Hollywood.

I mean if audiences ever take a hard turn against super hero movies, these big studios have a ton wrapped up in a lot of ongoing performances. Studios can handle one Rob Roy. They can't handle one with 3 more in the can probably.

<<<<Spoilery Review>>>>Got a chance to check out Avengers: Infinity War for a second time last night, so I figured it was about time for me to post my usual review. Avengers: Infinity War is a lot to take in for sure, which is why I needed two viewings of it to even give out my true thoughts. Overall, I really liked the movie. There is no doubt that the Russo Bros had their work cut out for them in this movie with having to culminate 10 years of movies, while also juggling so many freaking characters.

I truly think they did about as good as possible with that task at hand, but that isn't to say the movie didn't suffer some for it as well. In fact, some of my biggest negatives about the movie was how much the movie dragged at times in order for them to set up all this exposition and callbacks, particularly in the first half of the movie. At times, it even almost seemed like one big checklist of stuff to throw out there in order for everything to make sense, but again, I'm not sure they had a lot of choice with it. It kind of had to be that way. Another negative I had with the movie was some of the comedy, in how some of it really worked, while some of it really didn't (more-so than the average MCU movie). At times, it felt a bit forced and overboard too. The Guardian's comedy was the worst at really being hit or miss. This then leads me into probably another big negative, which was some of the characterization and unlikable paths certain characters went down throughout the movie, again, particularly with the Guardians. For example, Peter Quill did some really dumb things and had some really dumb jokes, which at times took me out of the movie and made me not like the character as much. A few other characters who really took steps back were Groot, Hulk and Drax, particularly Groot. His character did next to nothing and was more annoying than anything. I also didn't dig all the Hulk not coming back stuff. Not character related, but I also hated Tony Stark's new suit as it is finally getting too overboard. I hated how it literally has got to a point where it can do whatever the heck he wants it to do, which is way too convenient from a plot device perspective. Now lastly on the negative front was the whole Peter Dinklage Dwarf storyline. Not only was Peter Dinklage really bad in that part, but that entire story line was just drawn out too much and somewhat unnecessary. So, when looking back at the negatives, I don't fault the Russo Bros for some of the drawn-out exposition, but they definitely could have improved many of the other things.

Moving on though, lets get into the positives, where there was a lot of them. Again, I still believe that the Russo Bros did as good a job with this monumental task of juggling this juggernaut of a movie as possible. They are the masters of it. While a few characters took a step back in mind, many took steps up. In particular, I actually liked Dr. Strange more in this movie than in his solo movie. He took a MAJOR step up in my mind. Same goes for Gamora, Rocket, Thor (minus his hammer forging drawn-out part), Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch and Vision. All those characters were highlighted characters in this movie and were highlighted well. I now must also mention the most important great character of all in the movie who was Thanos. The Russo Bros. set out to make this purple CGI guy fearful, sympathetic and believable, and they somehow pulled it off. When they say that they made this movie as more of a Thanos centric movie than an Avengers one, they somewhat kind of did, almost in a Joker Dark Knight type of way too. Props to them as Thanos could have made or broke this movie. I even liked the Dark Order too, but mostly Ebony Maw. That dude was creepy. In general, the action was great too (minus the new Iron Man suit). Yes, it did drag on at times, but I thought it got better and better as the movie went on, which was nice. I also thought the movie in general got better and better as it went on. While the ending shocked me to the point where I didn't know if I liked it or not, after some more time, I've decided I do like it, in an Empire Strikes Back type of way. Truthfully, the next movie somewhat has the power now to make this movie's ending better or worse.

Lastly, on the positive front, I figure it is worth listing off some of my favorite, most epic moments of the movie:
- Cap and Black Panther running out in front of the pack, showing their leadership of this entire group
-Thor finally getting his hammer and coming in with a serious electric bang
-The Titan battle on Titan when Dr. Strange was creating portals for all the characters to jump in and out of
-Spider-Man's death
-The entire battle scene in Wakanda
-The Aliens ejection of Ebony Maw
-The Thanos Gamora sacrifice
-Dr. Strange's one scenario where they win out of millions
-The Hulk beatdown by Thanos

In conclusion, I did really love this movie enough for this to immediately become a top-tier MCU movie, but ultimately I don't think it will ever be my favorite. Truthfully, looking back, I'm not sure it necessarily could have been based on what it was as a culminating movie and had to be. For the most part, the Russo Bros accomplished their job and did it as good as anyone could. However, due to its innate structure, I'm not sure it could also still accomplish the things at its heart it would also need to do in order to be the ultimate best. It is just somewhat impossible. I still have a little hard time saying that because I still think they've set things up good enough where this next Avengers movie could be even better than this one, so I may end up eating my words too. I sure hope so. To finish things off, this movie truly was an event comic book movie come straight off the page to life. I'm not sure I ever dreamed it possible, but they did it and I'm so glad they did.

Look for me to post soon my updated MCU rankings to include this movie.

I agree on Peter Dinklage. I normally really like him as an actor. I thought his character was meh. And his voice sounded like he was trying way to hard to talk in a low, deep voice.

That was the one part of the movie where I think they easily could have cut 10 minutes out of and added that 10 minutes elsewhere to make it a better movie. I compare the forging the hammer scene to the Canto Bight scene in The Last Jedi. All its good for is a bathroom break.

It wasn't my favorite scene but I didn't leave the theatre even having the part in my mind. It was more of a throwaway moment than one that bothered me.

Ok everyone, question for you all that have seen the movie.

I haven't seen Ragnorok or Black Panther yet. How much will that affect me if I go watch Infinity War?

I've been trying to avoid spoilers but I really want to see what happens.

You owe it to yourself to see Ragnarok. It's at redbox. Panther comes out 5/8 on digital, I'm hoping to watch that on like a DirecTV rental or something that day, then I'll get to IW sometime next week.

Not all that much.

https://screenrant.com/marvel-bad-cgi-practical-effects/

Another great article on Marvel's CGI problem, a lot of the reasoning, and why they should commit to doing more practical effects moving forward. I am 100% in that boat. While Marvel has arguably been winning against Star Wars lately on the movie quality and success side of things, I totally think Star Wars is winning on the visual side of things, and it isn't close. The difference being that ever since The Force Awakens, Star Wars has committed to using as much practical effects as possible and it is totally noticeable. Marvel has trended the complete opposite direction. Also, both Star Wars and Marvel are Disney companies, so it would definitely be possible for one to help the other out.

I don't mind CGI as long as it's done well, the problem with some Marvel is that it has a Star Wars Prequel level of CGI. If it was all CGI but it was Jungle Book CGI, nobody would care.

*SPOILERS*

Could not disagree more on the Thor/axe forging. It was very important to the movie and did not at all drag on. And has basis from the comics. It was great to see ultimate Thor and the struggle he had to go through to get a new 'ultimate' weapon. And seeing Hemsworth's emotional range within the Thor character was really impressive (what can't that guy do!?). The whole story tied in well into the creation of Thano's gauntlet also. Comparing this in any way to the Star Wars Canto Bight disaster is completely misguided. Almost as if you're searching (too) hard to find things to complain about. And Dinklage was just fine, his accent was pretty much exactly the same as it is in GoT and no one complains there.

Groot shouldn't have been expected to be anything but small ancillary character and it paid off very well by having him be the key to the axe forging. The more I think about that whole scene (after seeing it 3 times), the more I enjoy and appreciate it, the action, the comedy and chemistry between Thor and 'Rabbit' (lol!), and its importance to the plot. Well done all around. And the Groot/Steve Rogers joke was really funny too.

Tony's suit and nano-tech was awesome. Simply awesome, and the GCI was unreal also. The nano-tech has basis from the comics and it's only a natural evolution that his tech keeps getting better and better and better. It has every single movie he's been in. It felt completely nature and as usual, RDJ was a perfect Tony Stark. The fight scene between him and Thanos combined with the realization that Thanos respects and knows Tony - so freaking cool.

The one negative I agree with is Star Lord. The movie definitely makes the audience 'dislike' him due to his stupidity. It was such a stretch to have him literally screw up their best chance to defeat Thanos (at least, that they believed at the time) because he was so emotionally (immaturely) pissed off about Gamora.

So many unbelievable moments in this movie. Seeing all these characters together so seamlessly integrated together was unreal to see. I'm like a kid each re-watch. Nothing drags on at all, in my opinion. They did I believe as good of job as possible of giving the different scenes and story lines the appropriate nod to backstory connection, while quickly meshing new characters and relationships. Stark and Strange, Thor and Guardians, Cap's Team and Black Panther, all well done. Thanos also - wow. Make no mistake, this was a Thanos movie with Thanos being the central protagonist. I cannot believe they could pull it off like this. Was it absolutely perfect? No, obviously not. But this movie gets an 'A' and will most certainly stand the test of time in terms of the epic impact. That Banner/Hulk Buster CGI scene at the end though... that specific CGI makes Phantom Menace smile.

Thanks for the response. Its super good to hear another person's perspective on this. Hey, at least I know somebody read my review :). Haha, that Banner/Hulk Buster scene was even more ridiculous the second time. That was one of the most ridiculous CGI things I've seen in a while. Sad part is that it really does kind of take you out of the movie at a really emotionally critical time. One thing I found really interesting in the bad CGI article I posted is that sometimes the film studios touch up and improve the bad CGI for home theatrical release. Therefore, it will be interesting to see if they do make improvements.
