Assistant coaches are nomads. I remember talking to Ash about where his kids would go to school and his reply was something to the effect that they will probably go to 5-6 different schools before they graduate. I'm not sure that we will ever have stability at the assistant spots.

What kind of offense did Auburn run before Franklin got to Auburn? How good was the Auburn offense the year before he got there? If you attack a guy for not having success when given less than a year, please back up ur statement with facts.

Well of course there is going to be some changes, some of which will probably be a good thing. I'll speculate:

-There are not too many Ash types on this staff (combination of age, expereince, and ambition to move on). Combine this with salary and head coaching stability improvement, and we are set up as good as most.

-Beil has declined to interview for one lower head coaching job already. He is local and has a history with CPR. He is also not that young, and only being an OL coach, probably the only possible move imo would be to a non-BCS school as an OC, and that won't happen soon.

-Wally is in his last stop

-Shane is hard to speculate on. Depending on what our plans are after Wally retires, and when Wally does such he may be staying for awhile

-Elliot has proven he will leave if given a better opportunity. Imo those are quickly vanishing for him

-Messingham's resume is full of Iowa colleges, Missouri State, and non-BCS jobs. He is from Iowa and not too young. Combine this with our year at WR, not sure what the demand is for him

-Frankly, Wells has low market value.

84th in the nation, 24.23 points/game in 2007.
17th in the nation, 33.31 points/game in 2009.

These stats do not take into account possessions or SOS.

So one could assume that the offense Franklin had to work with from 2007 was not very good to begin with. Then, when you take into account the dissention and in-fighting, it just got worse.

On a related note:
AU was 6th nationally in total defense (297 yrds/gm) and 6th in scoring defense (16.9 pts/gm) in 2007
AU was 68th in total defense (374 yrd/gm) and 79th in scoring defense (27.54 pts/gm) in 2009.
 
Mangino motivates through fear and humiliation. While this can be effective with a lot of people I cannot see this working on CPRs staff. I'll admit he is a great footbal mind but I would be VERY surprised to see him at ISU.
 
he was a better coach at kansas than the last nebraska genius(turnip gill) they had!!!!!!!
 
Mangino would be expensive as a hire.
1. Would have to book two airplane seats for him
2. Feed him?
3. Get him XXXXL ISU clothing, that's expensive
 
Mangino would be a cultural disaster. Last I checked he got canned from Kansas for berating players, how exactly does that fit in with the ISU coaching staff? All the talent in the world doesn't make up for being a horrible fit in any line of work, including coaching.

Frankling failed miserably at Auburn? He coached 6 games. They went 4-2. Tubberville freaked out, canned him and they went 1-5 from there on out. How exactly is that a failure?

Exactly. Everyone here has seen TTU play with the Tubbs over the past few years. The coach that deserved firing did get it, at the end of the year. Franklin was a sacrificial lamb. He was brought in to be the scapegoat.

Franklin is an excellent OC candidate, one of the very best. He's one of the very founders of the spread offense concept in my opinion. Tubberville even knows what he had and would hire him at Tech if he had the opportunity.

I think we can do better.
We do not need a full time medic following him around.
That would be three seats on a plane.
 
This guy has completely changed the Youngstown State offense, has them at 7-1. He has made a huge difference.
 
Top FCS Offenses YTD: Whoever is OC at Eastern IL and Stephen F. Austin deserves a look. Especially if the SFA coach has Texas ties.

And if CPR doesn't give Sturdy an/or Klenakis a shot before the year is out, that will be a shame.

hahahahaha i know about this! What a disgusting human being, but he made KU a national title contender so, um ya, some hourly can do his job at Ames CC and pick up the towel.

Eastern Illinois has a stud QB in Jimmy Garoppolo who's averaging almost 400 passing yards a game and put up 450 against N. Illinois...so that makes a big difference...

Be interested to see how their OC did without Garoppolo.
