Man punches kangaroo to save dog

When working in Sydney a few years ago I rented a car and toured the outback. (Not the one in Tampa). The first kangaroo I saw was dead in the road. I stopped to take a pic as I wasn't sure I'd see another in the wild. I ended up seeing a half dozen or so that day. Pretty cool.

You are correct. The Canadians had lots of stories of parked cars getting totaled by male moose in rut. Something about the cars and catching a moose in the right mood, and they will ram your car until they think it's "dead." (With their horns, clean up your mind). The first time I had one come near my car, it was astounding how big those animals are. Imagine a steer on stilts, that's the best way I can describe it.

For the record, moose have antlers, not horns. There is a difference.

Had a cousin who went to Northern Michigan and said they'd cancel classes if there was a moose on campus.

I have black bear, porcupine, (hearing) wolves, bobcats, etc. on my 'bucket list' for up north forest friends but I think moose are present but not abundant enough to simply come across.

Not sure what I'd do...spooked an adult black bear once and could have sworn when she ran that there was an elephant in the forest before she stopped to look at me. (Only know it was a 'she' because her cubs came to join her, which they luckily kept going away from me)

I've got a buddy that works in the ag industry and spends a few months a year working in back-country Australia. He showed me a picture of him hitting a kangaroo with his truck just like we would hit a deer in the highway in IA. It's kinda goofy thinking about them hopping around like we would see deer in these parts.

It's true. They have Roo Crossing signs like we do deer crossing. The first roo I saw in Australia was dead on the side of the road.

I saw Big Horn Sheep grazing on the side of the road driving through the Rockies once.

That is my only contribution to this thread.

Did you stop and punch one in the face? Because if not, it seems to me that's a heck of a missed opportunity.

Part of me thinks Id rather take my chances with a Kangaroo. I get a feeling a big horn sheep would Super Smash Bro me off that mountain.

No for the following reason.

The shockwave that goes through their bodies on that hit...

We were in northern Minnesota, driving the backroads, my youngest BIL driving. I thought I saw a dog pop up out of a field about 50 yds from us. My brain was telling my mouth to say "Hey, watch out for that dog," but it came out "Hey, watch out fOR THAT BEAR!" "Teenaged" black bear ran across the road. Wasn't a cub, but wasn't full-sized either. Gangly, too.

Ok, so he sounds cool too.

I feel like there are better things for me to be doing today, but I just dont want to now. I blame the OP.

If you're a kangaroo that can't hop gtfo

BTW, I've seen a two moose in the Winter Park, CO area. They're huge. One was just jogging down a forest road like he was Steve Prefontaine or something. Happily, I was 1000 ft above him/her.
