Malou entering the Draft without Agent

Malou's issues are not grades - related academic, as I understand it, but more of the educational sufficiency of the institutions where he has been. Additionally, he's not your traditional Sophomore, from an age and history standpoint. He has to declare in order to not lose yet another year of competition, but he fully understands that showing his game at the Big 12 level is clearly his best option.

I remember speaking with a D1 coach recruiting him at ABCD who said he is clearly NBA -skilled, but he will never get into school. This coach believed he would go international and get to the NBA that route. He certainly did not think he would go JUCO. Believed he was a one-and-done guy out of ABCD.

I'm bullish on the future of ISU MBB. So far, I believe that there have been rumors of every returning member of the team and incoming JUCO's leaving (with the exception of Weiler-Babb). So far, only Ashton has left. I actually believe that the NCAA is going to grant us additional scholarships because of all the upheaval we have been through this past year, to make up for the Big 12 refs and because we are awesome.

I'm most concerned about what we're going to do for the week before the Iowa game next year without being able to post Woodbury gifs.
 
This sounds very smart for him. The only possibility I see here that might make him go is if he's told he may make the 2nd round. I'm not sure who he has to look to for advice when it comes to what he should do with his career. Is Prohm someone he feels he can fully trust yet? It certainly doesn't seem like anybody from his past would be.


That scenario is unlikely so it's probably irrelevant. I'd bet he's a Cyclone next year.

Let's see, a timely decision by the NCAA that would help a potential student athlete make an important life decision?

Color me :skeptical: on any "timeliness".
 
Wait, Weren't there people who said that people who were questioning whether he would make it on campus were just trying to stir the pot and that there is nothing to worry about eligibility wise.... So this news can't be true.

The worst part though is that CW thinks 'up to cuff' is a saying. I'm thinking its a combo of 'off the cuff' and 'up to snuff'.
 
The whole eligibility thing for Malou is silly in my opinion. As long as he is in good academic standing at his current JUCO his high school/prep school shouldn't have any bearing on it. This is based on there are some guys who never finish High School go to California JUCO and are still eligible to play in college after they graduate from JUCO.

Here's what I don't understand - the educational sufficiency doesn't matter if he has an AA degree from DMACC.

So is that still in question? If there are doubts as to whether DMACC gives him a degree, I understand.

But once he has that degree where he was doesn't matter, except for two area that I can think of:

1) When did his "5 to play 4" clock start in terms of his remaining eligibility?
2) Was he paid to play basketball at any point?

This is the NCAA we are talking about, and we are Iowa State - this is why it's an issue. Color me :skeptical: on anything dealing with NCAA decision-making.
 
Not a fan of Hines' tweet stating that Malou had an "appeal" in front of the NCAA. Makes me more pessimistic about what may develop. Though perhaps I'm inferring more into that than I should.
 
At this point, I think Malou will be another Ivan Chiriaev or Norvel Pelle.

i took it to mean he'd have an appeal, if they don't rule it right to first time.
