Subject: Matt Nolde, Elem Art Teacher
Matt is the step brother of one of my college buddies. He is an amazing person who has overcome many obsticles in his life, which are listed below. Please take some time and read his story.
Thanks
There is an internet contest sponsored by the Woodhouse car dealership in Blair, NE that is giving away a car a month.
Matt Nolde, the Elem Art Teacher, has been nominated by his mom's husband.
"This candidate is an extraordinary young man with a huge responsibility on his shoulders. He was born with no hands and no feet. He has been through many surgeries to get to the point he is at now, and his mouth has also required many surgeries so that he could eat and talk. He uses two prosthetic feet but does not use artificial hands. He is a remarkable artist and graduated from college as an art instructor.
He currently is a teacher for the pre–K through 5th grade, seeing over 800 students weekly and he does this all alone in the classroom. His wife left him over 2 years ago, after compiling large credit card debt, medical bills and draining their money supply. During his divorce, he was advised by his attorney to file bankruptcy but he would not hear of it. He has been working to pay off all his debt and raise his 4 year old daughter and 3 year old son alone, while teaching school full time.
His car is getting a lot of miles on it and he could really use a new one. In June, he plans on driving back and forth to school to pursue a degree in Guidance Counseling. He feels he is so lucky and blessed and wants to counsel students by giving back to them what others have given to him – a drive to succeed and never to quit. This degree will take him three years to complete and will require huge amount of driving miles.
To see him just do daily routine functions with no wrists and hands is a marvel. Changing diapers, fixing formula bottles, opening cans and containers; he can do it all. And this is all done while walking on two prosthetic feet. His attitude is what keeps everyone around him marveling at him – so positive! He is an amazing man that blesses others."
