Makale Foreman Grad Transfer

So he'll essentially replace Jacobson's production?
I think he could match Jacobson’s offensive production, while being a catalyst for more production at other spots.

I’m very curious as to who starts at 3 and 4 spots

When you have 3 open schollies and 4 freshman already coming in and its mid/late May, you take anyone you can get. I think worst case scenario he's an inefficient, experienced guard that can be a program builder for the young guys. If he can continue his level of play and shooting percentages in the Big 12 then I think it's a great addition. West Virginia seems to have about 15 6'1-6'3 guards every year, so I don't think his size makes that big of an impact.

Also, have we all decided Tre is a for-sure Big 12 level starter next year? I thought he showed promise as a freshman but he wasn't exactly Buddy Hield out there. This kid would be a solid insurance policy if Tre isn't quite ready to take the next step.

If JCL comes to Iowa State he WILL be the leading scorer next season with Bolton not far behind.

That would be great, because that means he scores 16+ ppg. IMO Bolton would have to regress to not be our leading scorer next season.

Coleman-Lands would be a great add, but he doesn't need to be our best scorer. He just needs to be consistent on offense, around 13-15ppg. Plus be a solid defender and rebounder.

As of tonight the preferred starting 5 are
PG- Foreman/Jackson
G- Bolton
G- Coleman-Lands
F- Johnson
F- Solo

Well **** it why even play next season?

JCL would be our second or third best returning player from a scoring standpoint. I would be higher on him than Johnson. The freshmen class needs to be very good but I’m bullish on that class.

Not sure why thinking JCL is a 10-12 point scorer and Johnson averaging 6-8 points means we will go 10-20. But IMO Foreman is a waste.

Do you think he is coming here to be an insurance policy? Kids that take 14 shots a game and shot less than 37% from the field aren’t usually very content for a 15-20 minute gig. I’m not sure a kid on his third program in five years could be defined as a “program builder.” Should be option C or D even at this point in May.

There’s no PG in that group, it’s all combo guards. Which is fine, but you can’t label anyone as the PG.
I don't care if people on CF want to label them combo guards. Tre played PG in HS, and Foreman has ran the PG spot for a few years now. If someone runs and sets up the offense they are the PG on the team. Nick Babb was a SF but ran the point so that in turn made him the Starting PG. Why is that so hard for people to understand?

What they mean is they’re not likely to be good Big 12 pgs. Why is that so hard to understand?

Anyone can be tried at pg, yes. Not all will workout. Guys that haven’t demonstrated to be good pgs that lower levels, or have rarely demonstrated a handle while at Illinois or DePaul are risky bets.

I guess NWB surprised some, but there were comments about him having pg capabilities long before he was moved there. On the flip side, I thought DJ and Wigginton would be okay pgs going into that year. Ignorance is a bliss!

I’m betting on someone playing pg well, but I don’t have a good reason for that.

I mean if you watched any of Lindell's highlights you would have seen Matt Coleman who is now at Texas was Oak Hill's PG and Lindell was the SG.

Foreman was the pg at Stony Brook last year. He had a negative asst:to ratio. That’s who you feel comfortable running this team?

He played at Chattanooga and Stony Brook. He has 132 career assists and 127 career turnovers.

Honestly, I was one of those folks that thought NWB could play PG once I went back and watched his AAU highlights. Got no idea who
it will be there, though. Hopefully Tre just needed a year to get used to the speed and can play that role more this year. He looked overmatched for that role last year, though.

Agree, I had those thoughts too! And if we watched last season we would see that Jackson, Bolton, and JCL were not pgs, and Foreman not ready to be a good Big 12 pg.

Yet, just like with Wigginton, I’m being a fan and betting on the fact it hasn’t yet been proven they can’t be pgs. If just one of them improves or changes their game, we’re in business! But I certainly get why Foreman doesnt seemingly fill our primary need

a true PG P6 grad transfer was always the best fit for ISU needs no doubt, The issue is there isn't that guy available today after Aiken went to SH. The staff has come to terms with this and decided to get 1 or 2 more combo guards to pair with Tre and Rasir to get average to above average PG play next year. Allowing each to play 10ish minutes and share the responsibilities as facilitator should be fine and allow for 3-4 players to be the initiator on Off. That would also limit opponents target one player to pressure and stop the offence.
Not as ideal as having a Monte but that player isn't available and can work. If that true PG does become available late there will still be an open scholly to use for that player.

The only thing I like about Foreman is that he only ties up a scholarship for one season. A year from now we can use that scholly again and hopefully upgrade. In the meantime, he's a body to practice against and provide some support for our guys if fatigue becomes an issue. But I really don't expect him to come in and be good against Big 12 teams when he was so inefficient American East competition, which is arguably a step down even from Missouri Valley. If he has to play a lot of minutes for us, we won't be good.

This seems like the type of guy we made fun of Iowa for taking last year as a grad transfer--- Bacardi Evelyn. Hated to type that
