Football scoop has Mac listed as one of 3 finalists for the HC position at Toledo. His name gets thrown around for many jobs and scoop doesn't always do that much original research. Still, this appears to be legit and it would be a good fit for both sides.

Toledo: We hear that the job is down to Dan McCarney and one more candidate that isn’t getting a lot of press. McCarney is currently the defensive line coach at Florida. He previously served as the head coach at Iowa State. Our sources tell us that Arizona assistant Mark Stoops is not going to get the job.
While Mac might want to be a HC again...doesn't he make a lot of money as a Florida coach? I thought I read somewhere that that is the case? How much do HCs make in the MAC? Mac might have to take a pay cut to go there?
I don't know about that, but I would think once you become a head coach, nothing else, no matter where you are, quite compares.
You would have to think that the HC at Toledo would make more than a simple D-line coach at any BCS school, even Florida.
I believe Mac is listed as the Assistant Head Coach which is a little more then a simple D-Line coach.
Probally true... though I seem to recall also reading he liked the state of Florida in general
I went to Toledo... can't say I'd be all that eager to move there myself. But as you said... Going from head coach to line coach isn't all that great either. I would understand wanting to move up the food chain again, even if it is still behind your former position.

Coach Mac and fam are pretty happy down in Florida, I think his feelings are kind of mixed right now. He loves the game, but also loves his family life down in Florida now. He has made a pretty good living for himself. Id be surprised to see him take a Toledo job.
I think it would be a hard move to make, going from the sunshine of Florida to Toledo. You would really want to be a head coach again to do it. I know Mac has said he wanted to and if an opportunity presented itself he would be interested.
IF he want to be a HC, Toledo is as high up as he will get with his overall record, imo. He apparently turned down the South Alabama new program HC job, so maybe he will be happy staying an asst. I would think his health would enter in. How is the bad eye doing for him 33?
if he does choose to go to toledo i think he would quickly turn them into one of the best in the MAC... he'd get those florida and texas recruits that get passed up by the big boys and would turn them into a hell of a ball team
Toledo already recruits Florida - the roster lists 11 from FL. Only 1 current player from Texas as the mid-atlantic region doesn't appeal to most from Texas. The majority of the roster will still come from nearby including OH, MI, PA, NJ, & WV.
but are they talented? apparently not because their HC is gone... dan found talent, not just bodies to put on the field
