I’ve heard very good things about TravelPro, including that it’s the favorite luggage of flight attendants/flight crews.

As to the carryon/checked conversation, as someone who usually travels with contact solution and other liquids, it’s a real pain (and sometimes unworkable, depending on the length of the trip) to get those liquids to conform with carryon regulations (thanks a lot, stupid terrorists, for ruining air travel for all of us). And if I’m traveling with my wife, ain’t no way she’s gonna have more than one day‘s worth of clothes/supplies fitting into anything besides a large checked bag … so while the idea of never checking anything is attractive, I just can’t make that work, lol.

A few months ago, we bought a softside TravelPro Platinum® Elite Large Check-In Spinner . It is top quality and would buy that brand again in a heartbeat. With that said, I'd buy one size smaller. The problem is that it's so big, it's very easy to go over the 50lb limit. Our last trip we were only able to fill it about 80% full.

As far as carry on's, I just recently bought my wife a July hard side carry on w/built in charger. It was between this and a monos. She wanted a hard side but if it was me, I'd probably get a soft sided Travelpro. The more bags I've owned, the more I prefer soft side luggage.

Are you to trying to share a bag? With the weight restrictions a couple sharing a mega bag would seem better off with two not shared smaller bags. I have an older TravelPro 25" and glad I didn't go bigger. It's a 7-10 day size per the travel peeps. I've taken it to Mexico for three weeks. People, including me, pack too much stuff. Sis and BIL always had their own bags but they are each bigger than mind and they bring too much stuff and are always flirting with the 50 pound limit.

I have my backpack and little slinged "man-bag" for passport and anything I'll use on the plane like earphones/Kindle/glasses etc. Backpack does get heavy as heck on some trips with elec/tech gear (computer/binocs/Nikon/200-500mm lens etc).

I use to think this and then I spent the next 10 years hearing about the time the zipper broke on our cheap suitcase and she had to pull her bras off the conveyor belt, after a 10 hour flight. Buy once, cry once.

Not saying you need to buy a set of the same brands, but good quality is important.
