Lose/Lose Situation for both teams?

My opinion of national perception (since they've never thought much of us anyway):

There's something to be said for enjoying football for the sake of football. I love speculating if we're going to beat this team or who is going to win the conference this year as much as anybody, but not nearly as much as I like just watching the game itself.

While we might not care, it's much better for recruiting if we have have a stronger/better national perception. Ranking doesn't really mean squat but it sure would help us with perspective recruits if ISU is sitting in the Top 25 scores on ESPN's homepage.

If we win, we likely enter the top 25. If we win by 17+ points definitely in the top 25 and were 4-0. Being 4-0 does wonders for confidence. Maybe we go down to TCU and pull out a win and were 5-0 and somewhere around #17-22 ranking wise when top 5 K-state comes to town. Either way being 4-0 with 8 games to go, I like my chances at bowling

Yes, Being 4-0 overall, 1-0 in the Big 12, and likely being ranked is a "loss."

I thought prefacing my post with "as far as national perception goes" would take out the responses that say very obvious things like a win is a win.

Unfortunately, the perception of a 17 year old kid is a large factor in determining the future success of a program. I was merely stating that both teams really have a lot to lose and seemingly very little gain.

Unfortunately, many on this board are in rabid, foaming-at-the-mouth, hit-em-coming-off-the-bus football mode right now so rational thought is not an option. You are absolutely correct in your assessment. Turning the heads of the appropriate high school players is the quickest way to build a program and, as you mention, a win won't add much to either team's luster in that regard. Good post! Hope your team goes 11-1 this season!

Well 5-0 sounds great and we can't do that without this win. There aren't a lot of undefeated teams left after five games and we have a legitimate chance to get to that standing. We would most likely be in the top 20 as long as TCU doesn't lay an egg against SMU. Even if we don't win both o the next two, being 5-0 or 4-1 with Kansas still on the schedule makes a bowl game very promising.

I couldn't care less about national perception for this game. No one win is going to get that for ISU. Even beating OSU last year didn't make a believer out of the national media. You get positive national press by stringing together multiple wins when you're not a name brand program. Just like TT did when they had that great season a few years ago. Sure, ISU wants to be noticed nationally, but they're going to have to do it with an overall season, not just one game no matter who it's against.
