I'm a newly minted member of my homeowner's association and our first order of business this Spring is securing a lawn care contractor. To that end, I'm looking for recommendations of companies people have had positive experiences with in the past or would be happy to speak directly to someone here who has a business. We're located in Ankeny and are looking for someone to handle our lawn care, irrigation system, and fertilization treatments. I would be happy to supply further detail via email or pm. Thanks in advance.

we use A+ have been very happy, they are out of Ankeny.

Due to concerns w/ toddlers w/ lawn chemical allergies: We use Safe Earth (organic) - seem to do an OK job if you want corn gluten fertilizer (ISU patent), as its pricey to buy corn gluten, and not much more, if any, to buy it from them and have them apply it. They offer other services too.

The association probably requires everyone's grass to match, so you better use whoever the rest of the neighborhood uses. A different shade of green could get you fined, not to mention ostracized.

Do not use Spring Green. I used them 2 years ago, and they came out when they were supposed to, but the weeds in my lawn didn't seem to care and my grass was no greener than my neighbors.

I got better results just putting down Scotts in the spring and fall and doing a spray on Ortho once in the summer.

Not worth the money IMO

Agreed. I'm on the board so we're hiring a single contractor for the entire complex and are looking for bids on the entire area.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, any more would be welcome.

They never assume you just want to continue your service from last year and always call to confirm which is a huge plus for me. They rescued my yard from near death and now I have the best yard in the neighborhood.
