I was going to get a coupe, but have decided to go with a sedan for its practicality.
I have these in mind:
Chevy Cruze
Honda Accord
Mitsubishi Lancer GTS

Anybody have any experience with these?
I'd like to stay around $20,000.
Obviously, the Accord is probably the most reliable.
The Chevy Cruze gets great MPG.
And the Mitsubishi Lancer looks sweet.

I can't decide. HELP!! Any other sporty sedans that I should take a look at?
I think I'll add the Kia Optima to the list too.

What ever you get, if you have issues stay away from CarX in Ames. I have a simple issue with my break line and they tried to tell me I needed new Calipers and Brake pads. Glad my Old man taught me a thing or to about cars. Would have cost me 1200 bucks.

Wait if you're thinking about a fusion. A new one is coming out soon that is 10000% better looking.

You're going to struggle to find an Accord for $20K new. I had one a few years ago and they are very solid cars. At 60K miles it was as solid on the inside as most new cars.

Nissan Altima is also being redesigned in the next few month. It's in the same class as the Accord so it will be tough to get for $20K.

Some good options in the $20K range:

New Ford Fusion
Hyundai Elantra
Ford Focus Hatch

BTW-I wouldn't consider any of the sedans you have listed as sporty.

If you truly want sporty you'd be looking at cars like the Impreza WRX and Mazdaspeed 3.

If you're not hung up on getting a brand new car, you can get a heck of a deal by going certified pre-owned. For example, I got the following last year for $25K

2008 Infiniti G35x sedan
25K miles-30K mile service done for free
Warranty until 100K miles
306 horsepower
All wheel drive

So you're getting a slightly used sporty luxury sedan for $15K less than new. It has better styling, power, and interior. Once you drive the new car off the lot it's used The only downside in my eyes is that it requires premium fuel and gets 21 mpg. I know the thrill of getting a brand new car (about 10 times) but used is almost always the better route.

You might want to check out Consumer Reports. Do you want something dependable or do you want one that is in the shop on a regular basis. Some of the cheap and/or sexy models are not rated highly.
