Lockett or Pelle

We wouldn't be recruiting 3 players for sure and probably more if we were planning on giving Bubu a scholarship.

So they only recruit one player for one open scholarship?

That's weird, I wonder why they have offered so many guys in the 2013 class? Must be scrapping the whole team and starting over.

I will bet anyone all my credits that bubu doesn't get a scholly with some strange circumstance such as someone leaving the team mid-season.

What if we only get 1 of our 3 targets? That's not a strange circumstance at all.

The speculation is strong in this thread. Whatever happens, I think Bubu deserves a scholarship even if it isn't the best thing for the team right now. Fred is a good guy and he wants to reward Bubu, if he does or not will be yet to be determined.

Fred did reward Bubu - all last semester. The best reward for Bubu would be to build him a team that could go far in the tourney.

All the reward Bubu needs is a good team and the adoration of cyclone nation. Sounds good to me for a walk on.

How do you know this before he even plays a single game of D1 Bball?? I amazed at the sheer amount of folks that think he is a rock solid, play right away type of guy when we have nothing but a few videos against HS competition to judge him against. Same goes for any recruit.

Look...he LOOKS like a heck of a player, BUT I don't know how that will translate to the Big 12.

I do know that Lockett can play Big 12 ball and contribute. He has proven as much at this level.

Yup, my conclusion is based totally on how he looks on the video clips and I see an explosive player with great timing to block shots, someone who dribbles well, finishes with either hand, and runs the floor well. Others who have actually seen him play have him highly ranked.

BTW, Lockett has not shown that he can play BIG 12 ball. Also, please post videos of Lockett playing so we can compare the two.

Highlight videos are always the best way to critically evaluate a prospect. I can tell from Pelle's that no one scores on him, he rebounds all the misses, and he makes every shot he takes. Id say that is pretty good.

What do you mean? The risk with Pelle is he won't qualify academically, there is not much Fred can do to help him.

Obviously Fred can't help him with his academics. Fred has to decide where he uses the 2 scholarships we have available. The risk with Pelle is that he may not qualify or he may choose to go somewhere else. Timing is the big issue. Since we likely wont know Pelle's status until after Uthoff and Lockett are ready to commit, Fred has to decide 1) if he is worth the wait 2) if he will likely qualify 3) if he will likely pick us. If Uthoff or Lockett go elsewhere, timing is no longer an issue. I trust that Fred has a better handle on this then any of us.

Proven much against terrible pac 12 teams.

Lockett was just as good last year, when the P10 was a better conference. He scored more PPG against the four P10 NCAA tournament teams than he did against the others. If anything, the last few years have shown us that there is not that much difference between talent in the NCAA, other than the 1 and done types.

Plus, how can you forget Jake Anderson? He came here from Northern Illinois, and became a more efficent player against better competition, because he had more talent around him. Lockett isn't going to experience near as much of a change in competition, and is coming to a team with more talent. I expect him to improve even more than Jake Anderson did.

I'd like to have Lockett and Pelle the most, but I don't hold a scholarship for him unless I think there's at least 50% of getting Pelle. If Lockett and Uthoff both want to play for ISU, and I don't think Pelle has an odds-on shot of being eligible, I take them both. Otherwise, I don't give a scholarship to Lockett.

So Buzz and Fred don't know what they are doing? Give me a break.

I don't think that's what I said? Unless I missed something?

But all I do know is that the Pac 12 and the Big 12 are on 2 complete different levels of competition. Arizona will be really good this year, but that's this year. Washington finished with the best conference record, and was 1 game out of the best record in the Pac 12 and didn't even make the tourney. The 2 teams that did were Cal (Play in Game) and Colorado (Won Conf tourney). With the big 12 making 6 in teams in and none of them in bubble contention. Lockett can average those numbers against Pac 12 teams, I just think it will be interesting to see if he can against Big 12 teams (given the opportunity).

Guarantee ya we are in the top 2 schools for Lockett, Pelle, and Uthoff. The odds of landing 2 of the 3 are pretty good. Also i'm sure that there are at least 3-5 other kids we are recruiting right now. Slim chance that Bubu will get a scholarship. He is a good role player but not worthy of a big 12 scholarship when there are other better players than him out there. If we don't have an opportunity to sign someone better then yes he deserves it, but until that is the fact the scholarship will go to someone else. The only reason he got one last semester is because the original plan of bringing Naz Long in at semester didn't pan out. Therefore we had an open scholarship which we gave to Bubu.

This is my thought process. My heart really wants to be good this year and that's why I want Lockett, but I think Uthoff may be the better decision ultimately. I would bite my lip and try to be happy with Uthoff in street clothes for the 2012-2013.

Okay, I got you now. Head vs. heart. Makes sense.
Having to choose would be a great position for Fred to be in.
