Lockett or Pelle

According to ISU Recruiting Info on twitter

"Wisconsin transfer Jarrod Uthoff will visit Iowa State on May 3-4, will make decision shortly thereafter per report from @jeje66"

IMO it sounds like he will be committing here "shortly thereafter." So now we need to ask, who would ISU rather have Lockett or Pelle??

great, put a thread like this up so a recruit can read how much fans want or don't want him.

Go watch a highlight video of Norvell Pelle. Than go and try to even FIND one on Eric McKnight. Big difference

Norvell Pelle has competed and dominated at times against the best AAU players in the country. Eric McKnight was a young kid who looked to have talent bud hadn't shown he could play at all when ISU signed him.

I think there is a difference in getting placed and choosing a JUCO. When a player get's placed, you essentially are asking the NCAA to find a recruiting violation somewhere. Now if they chose to go to JUCO and have an open recruitment that is different. Nothing to say you couldn't have a player decided he was going to ISU after a year, but he has to at least let other schools recruit him or else I would think the NCAA would be looking really hard into the matter.

I agree that Uthoff would remain a "recruitable athlete" if he committed to ISU in May and attended MCC for a year but there certainly would not be any recruiting violations by doing that.

As another poster suggested, it is not much different than when Dedric Willoughby attended IHCC for a season after leaving UNO but he had already committed to ISU. The one difference between the two of them is that Uthoff could play at MCC and not lose any playing eligibility at ISU.

I think Uthoff is better off playing a year at a JUCO instead of sitting out for a 2nd consecutive season.

Disagree...I believe that practicing against against future teamates and learning our system is much more valuable than playing juco ball for a year. Getting a years worth of education at ISU would also be much more appealing than juco in M-town. I doubt JU would even consider that scenario.

Since he sat out last season, he would likely be better off competing this season and getting the rust off instead of being a scout team practice player. If he does go to MCC, he can still spend plenty of time in Ames playing pick-up games with ISU players and hanging out with them and there is nothing that would preclude him from taking a class or two at Ames while maintaining his minimum required credits at MCC.

You are as delusional as the Hawk fans that thought he would go to juco then Iowa or just pay his own way to Iowa.

This kid is not going from Wiscy to MCC. Not gonna happen

Your comparing Eric McKnight to a 5 star center that was in the top 20 of his class. I think Norvel will be ready to play if he ever gets here.

Ill take the bait. First he wasn't a consensus top 25 player. He was rated 23 by one site, rivals. But by ESPN and Scout he was 77 and I think somewhere in the 60's. Still pretty good but not a consensus top 25 player. In fact it is kind of rare to see that much gap between rankings. It suggests to me that rivals may have been looking at his upside while the other rankings listed him at his current ability. Either way, if he can get his grades in order he would be a great addition . I think the best case scenario for next year is they get Lockett and Pelle.

I didn't say it was going to happen, just saying IMO he would be better off doing so instead of gathering more rust next season and hurting his production the following season. Also, if both Lockett and Pelle decide on ISU (assuming Pelle is eligible), Uthoff could be nudged to MCC for a season if he also wants to come to ISU.

He's a defensive 7 footer. IDC where he was ranked.

The advantages for going to ISU are just so much greater for both JU & ISU, that going to M-town is just not a viable consideration. As a good student(which JU is reported to be), the chance is near zero for academic reasons alone.

He would not be better off. Why didn't Fred push the other transfer players to MCC then? Having a year to run the scout team, practice with the team, learn the system, watch film, bond with their teammates didn't seem to be too much of problem for Allen, Royce, Babb and Booker.

If Hoiberg wants Uthoff to be a Cyclone now or ever, he will be here next year.

Not to mention the players that he practices against are better than the juco players he would play against. This would help his developement.

I respectfully disagree...

As I posted previously, Uthoff doesn't lose a year of eligibility at ISU by playing at a JUCO next season. Fred's other transfers would have. Also, none of the other transfers voluntarily sat out for two consecutive seasons like Uthoff might. Huge difference between the circumstances surrounding Uthoff and the prior transfers.

Different circumstances between Uthoff and White. White attempted to play at ISU the prior season and was ruled ineligible by the NCAA. Also, Royce might have lost a season of eligibility at ISU by playing JUCO unlike Uthoff.

I don't know how likely it is for Uthoff to go juco, or if a school can do it, or if it's actually a good idea ... I thought cykadelic2's main point was that it's a way to actually get all three players.
