i personally would avoid central florida as its more expensive and buggy and swampy
yuma has and old west feel and probably the lowest price and lots of space
mission city/harlingen area more in between for climate, dry but more of a dead tree feel then palmy like yuma, and probably the shadiest of the 3, i felt safe down there when i lived in a dive motel for 2 weeks but was asked to drive a women of the night to a gas station
slab city is free with no hook ups and probably quite a few meth addicts so stay on your toes but i think it could be fine, not really sure
i actually crossed the border at yuma without any docs luckily they let me back in that was a really dumb decision
